Friends Don't Let Friends Do IgG Testing

Are you like me? Did some well-meaning practitioner at some point recommend IgG testing as a means to find out if you have food sensitivities? Maybe you had nagging digestive issues, body aches, fatigue, or unexplained migraines. A blood test, they said, could help us see what foods your body doesn't work well with. Not knowing any better and desperate to get better, you fork over the money. A lot of it.
And are you also like me in that when you got the results back and took out those foods... nothing happened. OK, maybe you felt a little more energetic by cutting out wheat or in my case, had significantly less skin inflammation by cutting out dairy, but nothing else resolved. Over time you resumed eating anything you wanted and were the same as before, minus a couple hundred bucks. So what gives?
For many years now IgG testing has gone mainstream and has especially become prevalent with many naturopaths and integrative health care practitioners. When food sensitivities are suspected, many turn to these tests without much knowledge as to how they work or their limitations.
So what is IgG testing? It's a blood test that measures the level of IgG present in the blood in response to different types of foods. The more IgG, the more reactive your immune system is to that food, or so the theory goes.
The main problem with this? Well, IgG is not the only antibody involved in food-immune reactions. By measuring IgG, we are only capturing a piece of the immune puzzle. So even if IgG tests were accurate, we would be missing large part of the picture.
That brings me to accuracy. As I alluded to, unfortunately IgG tests are just not all that accurate. They may on occasion capture true food sensitivity reactions, but the other interesting thing is that they may be showing you foods that you have developed a good tolerance to. Tolerance you say? Isn't that exactly the opposite of what we are testing for? Indeed. Research has shown that in many cases those with high IgG responses to certain foods are actually showing a strong tolerance for that food. It's almost a protective mechanism, of sorts.
Now, I am certainly not the first to raise questions about the validity of these IgG tests. In fact, faculty from my own Alma Mater, Bastyr University (where I first got my IgG test done, mind you) has even written on the topic ( http://www.tldp.com/issue/174/IgG%20Food%20Allergy.html). In their article they discuss the reliability and validity of IgG tests. They submitted multiple samples from the same person to several different labs that offer IgG tests. They found that 2 of the 3 labs had results that were different enough amongst the samples to be unreliable. There were too many variations in IgG levels for the same food with the same blood specimen to yield any clinically significant result. Surprising, isn't it?
The next consideration is validity. What basis or standard are we using to judge whether a particular IgG level is correlated with signs and symptoms of food sensitivity? Unfortunately, no standard has been determined. What one lab may deem as a high IgG level might only be moderate to another. Each lab can determine their own standard and make clinical judgments accordingly.
The last area of concern raised by the author of this article pertains to the use of therapeutic diets that correspond with the results. Often these tests come with suggested diet plans that propose elimination and rotation diets. As we have seen previously, clearly these are based on questionable results. Also they rarely take into account "untested" foods, so there is more guesswork in terms of what foods should and should not be included in the diet. This is just one more way in which IgG tests will very likely waste a lot of your time and money.
So don't be like me. Don't let you or someone you know waste their money on expensive food sensitivity testing that yields questionable results at best. All those colorful graphs should go straight into the recycle bin if you ask me. Unfortunately many practitioners see it as an easy way to show or prove to their patients on paper that they need to change their diet. There are much better ways, friends.
Mediator Release Test by Oxford Biomedical is by far the best blood test out there. You can read more about that on my web site and why I recommend it exclusively. If your practitioner isn't aware of it, tell them to check it out or simply contact me for more information.
Like I said, friends don't let friends do IgG tests. That's why I'm telling you.

My Truth Behind Ear Cartilage Piercing Healing Time

I have wanted to write about this topic of ear cartilage piercing for so long, but I decided to wait until my second piercing fully healed without the slightest pain or redness. First off let me tell you ear cartilage piercing is "NOT" for everyone, because of the long and sometimes unbearably painful healing process. Think long and hard before you get this procedure done because you will have to endure plenty of times when you are uncomfortable.
When it comes to ear cartilage piercing the best method to get it done by is a sterilized needle specially made for the ear. This type of needle will cut your approximate healing time by a few months and it is highly unlikely to shatter your cartilage like the piercing gun would. I got both of my piercings by the gun and I paid a major price because of it, it wasn't because I neglected my healing process. Once you find a place to get your ear pierced whether a tattoo shop, or place like Piercing Pagoda (Where I went) find out the best type of earrings to get. Since I had purchased 1 carat diamond stud earrings the year before I decided I would buy the stainless steel and wear them until I fully healed.
Once you get the piercing clean your piercing twice daily with the included ear solution and the piercing and care literature. You can also use alcohol if you prefer with Q-tips, both are good for cleaning and reducing redness at times. You should also turn the earring after each cleaning, this will help with loosening the hole and not allowing crust to buildup around the earring hole, (this is painful). PLEASE refrain from unnecessary touching, this can cause your pain to increase substantially. When sleeping try not to sleep and apply pressure to the pierced ear, it will hurt, get numb, hurt worse and turn red. Also while you are healing keep your hair away from your earrings, this can cause the hair to get caught up and wrapped around between your ear and the earring, and will hurt when removed and if not can cause infection.
Now for both of my piercings the healing time was approximately 6 months. The misconception that I had to fight through was that after 24 hours. If there is still pain and redness take the earrings out immediately and go to the E.R. "NOT for Me" I kept on with my cleaning regimen and never experienced long-lasting massive swelling or even infection at ALL. Now don't get me wrong it was a very painful experience that I decided to get done "Twice" up until about the 6 month period I rarely was without any type of discomfort.
This is my experience and opinions that I am sharing with you. If this seems too intense for you and your tolerance for pain you may want to try alternative ways to jazz up your ears like; ear cuffs or ear magnets where piercing is not needed. Either way which ever decision you choose, make sure it is what you want and will sacrifice to endure, Happy Piercing!

Cute Nail Design Basics

One of the most fun fashion trends today are nail designs rather than just nail painting. For years one solid color was par for the course, whether on the fingernails and toenails. Now, there are so many different tools that can be used to develop designs, along with decals and appliques, that it is simple to keep your nails in coordination with not only your outfit and its color scheme, but also with the occasion you may be celebrating, whether it be a holiday or a personal special occasion. Your options are as boundless as the imagination, and you can stand out in your own unique arena by choosing nail designs that will simply amaze, and you can change them as often as you choose.
Some of the more popular designs now days represent sports teams and holidays. Many love to show the spirit of the occasion through not only color but by adding mascots or other forms of team loyalty representations. It is a lot of fun to have manicures and pedicures that match special dresses or other outfits being worn to special occasions such as Christmas parties or celebrations, St. Patrick's Day festivities, or other holidays in which the celebratory aspect involves color and design. The following are some of the tools of the finger/toenail trade, and some of the many, many ideas that can be used to make preparing your nails not only fun, but something you will love to do with or without occasion.
Nail Art Tutorial
While nail art design may appear to be very hard, anything is possible to perfect through practice, and in this case practice can be a lot of fun. By paying attention to tutorials you will realize the simplicity and flexibility available to you to become your own manicure and pedicurist, and you will find that you can cut way back on the money you may have been spending on this service.
Some Simple Ideas To Start:
1. Half-Moon Nails
These consist of leaving the half moon at the base of the nail bare, while designing and coordinating the colors above it. Colors that compliment each other are vital in giving the utmost effect, for examples, blues with blue tones or silver, or in contrast red with red tones or gold. These are simply color schemes, but leave the Half-moon bare.
2. Floral Nails
These can be designed by choosing the preferred base color. While you can apply decals that are floral, it is just as simple to add daisies or other similar flowers that can be completed on top of the base coat by means of simple dots and streaks. They are gorgeous attention grabbers.
3. Glitter Nails
Very simple and effective. By choosing a coordinating base-coat, you are able to choose a glitter topping that will accent the base coat and your clothing color scheme as well. You are free to choose whatever colors you like, which will allow you to showcase your style and personality.
While many designs now days may be done with air-brushed techniques, it is very important to remember that you are able to design your finger and toenails with quick originality and use it as an expression of self. As you gain more confidence in this area, feel free to begin to experiment with air guns, decals, and other original ideas at they fit the message you are trying to spread. You will find manicure and pedicure work done by yourself and to your expectations is far more pleasing and less expensive than to go to the salon.
Research self manicure and pedicure options, and start having fun and being yourself today!

How to Gain Weight Fast: 7 Tips for Skinny Guys

Gaining weight can be so frustrating for anyone - trust me I know I was a super skinny guy for years. I know how it feels to bust your butt in the gym 5 days a week and not put on a single pound! Some guys seem to be able to train 3 times per week and eat whatever they want and still look amazing. Well lucky for them they have great genetics on their side.
So what about the rest of us?
After months of article reading, researching and talking to the "big guys" I have found some great tips that work amazingly well. I have transformed my body and so can you! So I have decided to share what I have found with you.
This article will give you the tools that you need to go out there and achieve the physique you desire. I will be giving you specific advice on nutrition, training and lifestyle that I want you to read and follow.
How to Gain Weight and Build Lean Muscle
Tip#1 Goal Setting
Before you start you need to set some realistic goals that are personal to you! If you don't have goals then you're training and dieting becomes less specific. Achieving your goals regularly will motivate you to keep going and train harder and diet smarter.
To achieve your desired long term results you need to set short term goals that are SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time scale).
A good guide for gaining lean muscle fast is to try and put on at least 2lbs per month. A lot of people will think this is slow but your body can only build so much muscle at a time, the rest will be stored as fat.
Tip#2 Analyse your Current Diet
This is a time consuming but critical part of learning how to gain weight fast and improve your eating habits. Over the course of a week try and write down every bit of food or drink that passes your lips. You can then use an excellent app called My Fitness Pal to analyse how many calories you are consuming on a daily basis. Better still; the app will break down those calories in to protein, carbohydrates, fat and other minerals for you.
Once you have done this for a week you can then add up your daily calorie intake and divide the total number by 7 to find out your average daily calorie intake.
Tip#3 Make Changes to your Diet
Now you know your average calorie intake, you should;
  1. Calories: Add between 300-400 calories a day more to your existing average calorie intake
  2. Protein: Consume 1.6 grams of protein per kg of body weight.
  3. Fats: 20-30% of your daily calorie intake should be from healthy fats.
  4. Carbohydrates: The rest of you calories should come from carbohydrate, fruit and vegetables.
Tip#4 Eat Quality Food
Try to eat good quality protein, carbohydrate and fats. This will ensure that you aren't packing too much unwanted fat. Add these foods to your shopping list;
  • Protein: White fish, lean poultry, lean red meat, canned tuna, eggs, skimmed milk and lentils
  • Carbohydrates: Wholemeal bread, jasmine rice, potatoe, pasta, bagel, oatcakes
  • Fats: Olives, nuts, seeds, fish oil, flaxseed oil, peanut butter
Tip#5 Use Supplements
If you can afford supplements then you should use them! They are an excellent way to easily fit in high quality calories in to your busy day. Ensure you stick to the basics of whey protein, creatine, mulit vitamins and BCAA's.
Tip#6: Workout with Compound Exercises
If you're not doing so already then you need to start working out. A beginner should aim to train 3-4 times per week with a rest day in between to help you recover.
To gain weight you need to do what's called compound exercises. These are multi-joint exercises that stress lots of muscle groups at the same time - exactly what you need to do to gain weight fast. Examples of these exercises are:
  • Squats - An excellent all body exercise. A trainer once told me, 'Big legs, big boy'.
  • Deadlift - Great for strengthening your hamstrings, glutes an core.
  • Bench Press - The bench press will help you develop your chest, triceps and shoulders
  • Pull ups - Pull ups aren't easy but your back and biceps will explode in size with this exercise
  • Shoulder Press - Try to use free weights over using shoulder press machines.
Tip#7 Rest and Re-hydrate
Your non workout days are more important than your workout day! That's right. Use your rest day to re-hydrate, re-fuel and relax. If you don't rest then how and when do you expect your body to relax?
Feed your body with quality foods like the ones discussed in tip 4 and drink plenty of pure water.
Conclusion

Easy and Best Bodybuilding Tips for Beginners

There are so many bodybuilding tips and free workout routines available on the web these days, and there is ever increasing interest of people in bodybuilding programs. Many people want to build muscle, but do not know how and where to start. Some people do hire a personal fitness trainer for this purpose, but many do it by their own and fail because of not having background knowledge, proper bodybuilding workout schedule and their set fitness goals. People start bodybuilding without any proper planning and quit quickly when they fail to get any results.
Here I am going to discuss some basic, but very useful bodybuilding tips for beginners, and I hope if followed in the right directions, can provide you great results.
Come up With a Plan:
Before starting any bodybuilding program, it is highly recommended that you should come up with a proper plan. Always set your goals realistically to make your bodybuilding program successful. If you set your goals unrealistically, simply you are setting up a failure plan for yourself. After setting proper bodybuilding goals, do stick to them and always try your best to follow them in the way they are designed.
Bodybuilding and Diet:
Almost all bodybuilding programs involve some strenuous exercises, so your body needs extra energy for such workouts and exercises. Diet plays a major role in the bodybuilding process, and you should eat healthy diet and supplements to fuel your body. Try sticking to whole organic foods which offer a blend of complex carbohydrates, fats and complete proteins. Nutrition affects almost every aspect of your lifestyle, so it needs to be balanced and coordinated according to your desired fitness goals.
Food Supplements:
Protein Intake
Protein is the most common supplement used for bodybuilding. One of the best things about protein is that it gets absorbed in the body very quickly. The high content of cysteine amino acid in the whey proteins makes them highly beneficial supplements for bodybuilding.
Testosterone Supplement
A high level of testosterone helps in burning fats and building muscles. There are so many natural ways to increase testosterone level in the body using supplements. Tribulus Terrestris, a natural herb, can boost testosterone level tremendously.
If you are going to consider supplementing your diet, keep it simple and always keep in mind every supplement has its own value. Soy, whey, creatine monohydrate, caseinate proteins, electrolytes, multivitamins and etc. are all great supplement options.
Train Your Brain Too:
The best athletes/sportspersons train their minds along with bodies in order to become successful. If you want success of your plan, you need to prepare yourself mentally too. Always focus on your goals and keep an eye on your short term and long term goals, and when following your bodybuilding workout schedule, only focus on your exercises both physically and mentally.
Do Variety of Trainings:
To make your bodybuilding program successful, keep on changing your training regimes instead of repeating the same workouts every time. Compound exercises, which involve at least two or more sets of your body muscle, are the best workouts for bodybuilding. These variety of workouts and exercises not only help you keep motivated and active, but also help in achieving your goals quickly.
Rest and Sleep:
Many novice bodybuilders always forget the importance of sleep and rest for building muscle mass. Your muscles grow when you sleep, so if you are not getting enough sleep you are not allowing your muscle to grow. Your muscles need some rest for wear and tear they get during your strenuous workouts and exercises. Simply, allow your body adequate sleep and rest during your workouts to make them grow in the way you want.
Consistency is the Key:
The last, but the most important bodybuilding tip is to be consistent no matter which bodybuilding program you are following and what goals you are going to achieve. If you are following all above tips, but not consistent in following any of them, you are simply wasting your time and energy. So, it is very important to follow your workout and diet plans regularly to make your bodybuilding plan successful.

Diet Tips for Post Workout Drinking

Being in college, it is natural for people to party and drink socially, but there presents the infamous question, "How bad is drinking alcohol after a workout?" Will going out on the weekends have bad effects on your fitness efforts? Well, the consequences may not be as bad you might think there are two things you need to keep in mind, alcohols effects on both muscle recovery and body composition.
1. Make sure you are taking in protein once you finish a workout. There was an experiment focusing on post workout drinking that had the athletes get drunk after an intense workout session and as a result, their protein synthesis when down almost 40%. These athletes were then set up for another trial, where they were given a whey protein shake before they started drinking, and the amino acids in the whey were able to reduce the effects of the alcohol to almost 20%. Even though this may still seem like a lot, drinking this heavily once a week is not a big deal. Also if you did something that lowered protein synthesis three times a week, it still would not be that detrimental to you. Also, the athletes in the study were taking in around 8 vodka shots in a short amount of time, obviously if you drink less, the effects on protein synthesis will be less. So next time you plan to go out with your friends post working out, have some chocolate milk or better yet, have a protein shake at the ready, and you will not have to worry about ruining your hard work.
2. Another thing you are going to need to watch is the calories of whatever you are drinking. If you are trying to lose weight, or even maintain it, calories always matter! Try to make it your aim while working out to have 5 drinks a week, and change it from there depending how your weight loss is coming along. If you drink this much a week, your body will benefit by increasing your HDL cholesterol, but anymore and the extra calories start to outweigh the benefits toward your HDL cholesterol. Keep in mind as well that all drinks are different in the amount of calories you take in. Having drinks with sodas and juices as mixers can end with you overloading on calories and end with a bad hangover from all the sugar. Try choosing simple drinks like vodka and club soda where you can still party and minimize the amount of calories you take in.

How To Keep Your Focus On Losing Weight

A lot of people want to lose weight but many of them fail to do so. One of the main reasons why people tend to fail at losing weight would be because they tend to lose their motivation towards attaining their dream figure. Trust me, losing weight is pretty difficult especially if you don't really focus into it and you don't have enough people to back you up. I've met a lot of people who tried to lose weight for a couple of months and after that they just quit before they got tired.
So how do you exactly stay motivated?
1. Make it a habit
According to a popular saying, if you something 5 times consistently, it will become a habit. When it comes to weight loss habit, I'm not just talking about going to the gym and eating the same kind of food but rather having the habit of staying healthy which includes doing the right methods and also having the right mindset. If you truly want to lose weight, don't focus on losing those pounds but rather focus on becoming healthy.
2. Follow the right people
As much as possible follow the right people who really knows a lot about losing weight. Make sure that you do your research first about someone before actually buying into their ideas and products. Go for people who actually lost weight using methods that they are not afraid to disclose. When it comes to going for the person to mentor you, you have to be very careful because the wrong kind of mentors could really mess up your health.
3. Have a good support group
One of the best ways to lose weight is by doing it with people that you already know. If you go to the gym with your friends who also do workout regimens then that would be a great push for you since the gym experience will make it less tiring and more fun. Aside from that, having a support group will definitely be great since they could encourage you to keep on going.
4. Use the right weight loss products
There are tons of products that could help you cut your weight, it could include workout tools and even weight loss supplements. When it comes to weight loss supplements, it is important that you should go for ones that could help you lose weight naturally this is because undergoing natural weight loss is less risky and at the same time more effective.

Green Coffee Beans - Pros and Cons

Green coffee beans extracts have been in the headlines for awhile now, with their role in weight loss being massively endorsed. These coffee beans have not undergone any roasting, so their constituents are preserved. Chlorogenic Acid is the compound of interest which is abundant in the variety. And it is the active ingredient that conveys all the properties of Green coffee beans.
Role of CGA
The compound signals your body to burn stored fat. For overweight people, there is an abundant of it under the skin. The acid fuels the process of fat metabolism reading to a reduction in the amounts stored.
CGA also plays a role in blood sugar uptake. It slows down the process of glycolysis (breakdown of glucose) meaning there is less of it available to be converted into fat. It also compels your body to break down more fat to increase the supply of glucose.
Pros
Green coffee bean extract is natural, so it contains none of the artificial ingredients that may have negative effect. Since it is pure, it is highly effective.
These beans activate thermogenesis, which is the process through which the body takes up any provided calories. Combined with the continued breakdown of fat to provide glucose, your body does not display any immediate glucose needs (indicated by hunger), so you can be able to skip some meals without much struggle.
Cons
However, there are some cons too! Most of the supplements of green coffee beans are derived from a source that is rich in caffeine. This means some groups are locked out from using the product. These include expectant women, those who are breastfeeding, as well as persons with intrinsic disorders, such as hemophiliacs.
Some experts argue that the purported weight loss effects of green coffee beans are exaggerated. While its effects on insulin uptake have been demonstrated, the study that uncovered its weight loss characteristics did not address some important variables, such as including a big enough sample size.
So, is green coffee bean worth to use? Well, In a world that is continually struggling to attain healthier weights, any way out that promises a solution that is apart from exercise or diet is celebrated. The extract has no reported side effects, so it is well worth a try. However, ensure that the product you buy has no fillers or additives. And it is advised that you should consult your dietician before you go for any such weight loss product.
If you want to lose up to 17.5lbs in less then 22 weeks without exercise or diet visit green coffee bean max website and start losing weight immediately visit http://www.greencoffebeansmax.com/

Why Are There Lines In My Forehead?

Do you say this to yourself when you look in the mirror "I see lines in my forehead." "Why?"
Why does skin that was once smooth, soft and supple start showing lines especially lines in my forehead?
The easy answer is you are getting older, but that is only partly the reason. Aging doesn't fully explain what's happening.
The cause of lines and wrinkles -- is a loss of collagen and elastin. These two elements are what make skin, soft, supple and flexible and have done so -- since you were a baby with baby perfect skin.
As we age our body's production of collagen and elastin lessens. This means skin just isn't as resilient as it once was and telltale signs -- lines and wrinkles start showing up.
Other factors add to the problem. Not bothering to use sunscreen/sunblock can make matters worse. Dermatologists call this 'sun screen neglect' and it certainly contributes to the problem. Because the UVB & UVA rays cause skin damage.
Besides using appropriate amounts of sun block on a regular basis is there anything else that can be done?
Yes!! The key is getting your body to produce greater levels of collagen and elastin.
OK that makes sense, but how can you do that? Are there - skin care products that will increase the amount of elastin and collagen your body can produce?
You bet there are! But for skin care products to help your body increase production of elastin and collagen!!! Those products - need to be of high quality and designed to do the job.
A number of skin care products available do not aid in increasing production of these two important elements. You must be careful in the products you choose. Some unscrupulous skin care manufacturers offer products which do in fact contain collagen. The Collagen is added right to the cream, lotion, suave or ointment.
Be aware this does NOT work. Added collagen can not be absorbed by your body. The molecules are too large to pass through human skin.
Trying to increase your collagen by absorbing it through your skin -- is a fool's errand, Any company that promotes this -- should be avoided.
What you want are products that will enhance your body's ability to manufacture its own collagen and elastin.
OK now here is the million dollar question. Are there--skin care products that can stimulate your body to make more of these two elements?
Damn right!!!!
A terrific little company has chosen not to advertise its products in the traditional way, nor do they sell those products in stores, but rely completely on word of mouth, referral marketing, and only sell those products through the internet.
How sure are they of their products? Well they are the only company I am familiar with that offers customers a full - 365 day money back guarantee.
So click on this link to learn more about ==> awesome skin care products that not only did you NOT know existed, but you didn't even know could exist.

Alcohol : How Badly Can It Affect Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Sufferers?

The wonders of alcohol.
The achilles heel for many people. The 'norm' for some others. And poison if you have CFS/PVFS/ME ...
I remember when I first got Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome/CFS back in 1995, I thought that having a drink or two wouldn't affect me any differently to my PRE-CFS days. Unfortunately I didn't realize what I was doing to myself.
I didn't know how badly alcohol can affect the severity of this CFS ...
Nowadays I don't touch alcohol at all, and haven't done so for a few years now. I'd rather see at least a few hours in the day instead of being bedridden for weeks on end because of one alcoholic drink!
Because when you have CFS/M.E., you might as well be pouring arsenic down your throat...
------SIDE NOTE-------
Okay - so that comparison might be a little 'dramatic', but you get what I mean right?
-----SIDE NOTE-------
You see when you have CFS/M.E., you are likely to develop **alcohol intolerance**...
The smallest alcoholic drink - even a tiny bit,
can send you into a relapse - as I learnt the hard way many years ago.
Having an alcoholic drink now and again was enough to tip the severity of my PVFS/CFS over the edge and put me in bed indefinitely.
When a **normal** person gets drunk they may feel a bit bad for a day or so, after which, they're back to 'normal', bouncing back and raring to go. But when a person with M.E./CFS gets drunk - or even has just one drink, they're likely to feel like 'death warmed up' for what seems like an eternity!!!
Personally, I don't actually like alcohol much so I don't miss it. But even if I did,
I have realized that alcohol no longer makes me feel the way it used to before I had CFS...
Drinking alcohol now feels like I'm feeding myself poison, and my body reacts accordingly - i.e. a flare, or worse, a relapse - and I suffer the consequences for a long, long time afterwards.
Unfortunately, most of us CFS sufferers are just not strong enough to resist the poisons of alcohol.
So for most of us, it's unfortunately a case of accepting it, or getting much, much worse.
As Dr Shepherd writes in his book 'Living With M.E.':
"Some people who previously enjoyed and tolerated regular consumption of alcohol without any adverse effects, now find that even small amounts make them extremely unwell."
-- p214, Dr Shepherd, 'Living With M.E.' --
So if you have M.E./CFS, it is likely that you may have developed an intolerance to alcohol.
And that's not forgetting that alcohol also affects the effects of antidepressants (often prescribed to CFS sufferers to treat their fatigue and to help sufferers sleep)! So if you're taking antidepressants, it's definitely something to bear in mind.
Having CFS/ME can be a very lonely and devastating experience and depression can be a very real and serious symptom for some CFS sufferers. So the last thing you need is to take substances that make you feel worse.
And guess what?
Yep, you've guess it, alcohol is also a depressant. So it's not a great thing to drink if you're depressed!
And according to Dr Shepherd, many sufferers sadly do turn to alcohol...
But alcohol is no answer. Apart from probably making you feel depressed, you could also develop an alcohol dependency!
What's more, if you **are** alcohol intolerant, then it would make it much harder for you to recover from M.E./CFS (pretty much impossible even), while you keep putting alcohol in your body.
And here's some more 'food for thought'...
When you think about how badly a CFS sufferer can be affected by **one** alcoholic drink, then how badly could alcohol be affecting you if you're drinking more???
So there you go - a whole list of reasons why you might think twice about drinking anything remotely alcoholic while you have CFS/M.E.
While you may no longer be alcohol intolerant once you have recovered from CFS/M.E., it may well be a major culprit for preventing you from **recovering** from your CFS/M.E while you still have it.
I didn't know about the possible effects of alcohol when I first had Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome ...
... and I suffered the consequences. My illness got worse. A lot worse. And I was only having a couple of drinks now and again! So I hope this article arms you with enough info for you to make an educated decision about alcohol either way.
You never know - it may well make the difference...

What Is The Healthiest Energy Drink?

With so many beverages converging on the marketplace, it's really not that easy to answer. First a definition for healthy must be determined, and then a way to apply the definition to energy drinks must be found.
Healthy means "conducive to good health"
It also means "natural and desirable" simple qualities that are hard to meet sometimes. Also in the formula is the personal health habits of any individual. Ultimately the individual that consumes the drink is responsible for his or her health. Even the healthiest energy beverage can be abused, just like coffee or soda. Ingesting too much caffeine and sugar is not conducive to good health. Each individual needs to find what the healthiest energy drink is for them.
Many of these drinks are very different from one another. Looking at a cross section of the energy drink market, we find some distinct differences in amounts of ingredients. Below is a table with the top 4 healthiest energy drinks in a recent head-to-head competition.
Drink/Beverage--Caffeine--Sugar--Calories
1. Verve--80mg--18g--72
Comments: The only drink formulated from Vemma, an antioxidant nutritional supplement. Verve is loaded with many more vitamins than the other drinks including jumbo helpings of Taurine, 1000mg and Guarana Seed Extract, 200mg. Verve also comes in a zero sugar version and shots.
2. Xowii Energy--50mg--13g--55
Comments: Contains RedKona cherry, an antioxidant.
3. Monavie EMV--60mg--22g--170
Comments: Low calorie, acai berry drink.
4. A.C.T. Energy--0mg--5g--24
Comments: One of the only drinks that contains no caffeine.
The winners have more of the good, less of the questionable ingredients. It now appears that the answer to our question, are the highest rated healthy drinks that contain the most unquestionable ingredients. These include tons of vitamins, high amounts of taurine, low to moderate levels of caffeine, and low, or no sugar. Drinks lacking extra vitamin support and high sugar levels may not be your best choice in choosing a healthy beverage.
Ultimately, the consumer makes the choice In the article above we have tried to isolate the healthiest energy drinks and give you some sound reasoning behind the choice. But, as always, the final decision lies with the consumer of the drink. Hopefully, your choice will be one that is made from careful consideration and clear judgement. Remember, the energy for your goals comes from you. The boost you get from a healthy energy drink is the little extra edge you may need to achieve your dreams. Make a careful choice. All You Need To Know About Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is a dangerous disease that is usually brought about by the hepatitis B virus (HBV).
Originally known as serum hepatitis, this condition has been reported in parts of Asia, Africa, and china. It's estimated that about a third of the world population has been affected by the condition and over 350 million people are chronic carriers.
The virus is usually transmitted when one is exposed to body fluids such as semen and vaginal fluids. The virus is also transmitted when one comes into contact with infectious blood. Although, the viral DNA has been found in saliva, urine, and tears of affected people, it's very rare for the virus to be transmitted via these fluids.
While everyone can be infected by the virus there are some people who are more exposed. The most exposed people include: those working in healthcare settings, blood transfusion centers, dialysis rooms, acupuncture, and tattooing.
People who tend to share razors and toothbrushes have also been shown to be among the high risk groups.
The virus can't be spread through: holding hands, coughing, breastfeeding, hugging, kissing, sharing of eating and drinking glasses, and sneezing.
The condition usually brings about a number of side effects. In acute illness, the condition brings about vomiting and jaundice. It's only in very rare cases that acute infection will bring about death.
In chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and liver cancer are common. As a result of liver cancer, death is common.
If you think that you have the condition, you should rush to your nearest health center where your blood will be taken and the virus detected.
Although, the condition is fatal, the good side is that it's preventable through vaccination. Here you are injected with attenuated viral particles after which you develop antibodies against the virus.
The vaccination has been shown to be very effective in young children and the effectiveness of the vaccine has been found to decrease with advancement in years where the vaccine is less effective in older persons.
Treatment
There are a number of medicines that can be used to treat the condition. The most common medicines that can be used include: lamivudine, adefovir, telbivudine, and entecavir. While these drugs are very effective, they have been found to bring about a number of side effects such as loss of appetite, lack of energy, and anemia.
Due to the side effects, scientists have come up with natural supplements that have the potential of treating the condition. Some of the natural treatments include:
Reishi mushroom: it has been shown to be very effective in treating the condition especially in cases of severe liver impairment. Other than treating hepatitis, the mushroom has also been found to be very effective in treating auto-immune disorders.
Milk Thistle: also known as liver tonic, this substance protects the liver by strengthening the outer membranes of liver cells which in turn prevents toxins from entering the cells. Thistle has also been found to have very strong antioxidant activity and as a result it protects the liver from damage.
Black seed oil: it improves liver function and associated digestive problems. In Japan, the herb is used in treating chronic hepatitis.
Scientists have found that the herb tends to stimulate the liver to produce cholesterol. The herb has also been found to be effective in increasing bile excretion and as a result cholesterol levels in the body are reduced.
Oils: a number of oils have been found to be very effective in treating hepatitis. Some of the notable oils include: eucalyptus, oregano, thyme, lemon and virgin coconut oil. These oils usually have antiviral properties which result to death of the viruses.

The Anatomy of the Shoulder

The anatomy of the shoulder joint allows for an impressive range of motion and utility. The combination of the glenohumeral and acromioclavicular joints allow us to flex, extend & abduct, adduct, rotate and circumvent our arms. This complex joint deftly balances our upper bodies' need for freedom of motion and joint stability through an astonishing arrangement of connective tissues, muscles and bony structure.
The Glenohumeral Joint
The two major bones of the glenohumeral joint are the scapula (the shoulder blade) and the humerus (the upper arm bone). The rounded end or head of the humerus sits in a shallow depression on the scapula called the glenoid fossa. This union of the rather large humeral head and relatively shallow glenoid fossa create a ball and socket joint that is extremely flexible. The glenohumeral joint gets the stability it needs while maintaining its impressive range of motion by relaying on connective tissue to support the joint. This network of supporting structures includes:
  • The labrum - ring of cartilage that surrounds the glenoid fossa and extends the socket while keeping it flexible.
  • The four muscles of the rotator cuff - the Teres minor, Infraspinatus, Supraspinatus and Subscapularis wrap around the scapula and the humerus. They provide stability to the joint and are responsible for rotating the arm.
The Acromioclavicular Joint
The lateral end of the clavicle (collarbone) and a bony projection of the scapula called the acromion meet at the highest point of the shoulder to form the acromioclavicular joint or the AC joint. This is a gliding joint that is held together by an extensive network of ligaments and muscles. The AC joint gives the scapula a greater degree of motion which makes it possible to lift the arm overhead.
The Muscles of the Shoulder Joint
The shoulder joint gets its impressive mobility by sacrificing stability. The joint is largely dependent on muscles and ligaments to maintain its integrity. The supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis, and teres minor are the four muscles of the rotator cuff. Each of these four muscles originates on the scapula and fixes itself onto the head of the humerus. Many muscles surrounding the shoulder work with the rotator cuff to rotate, abduct, and adduct the humerus. The deltoids coracobrachialis, serratus anterior, pectoralis major, pectoralis minor, latissimus dorsi, trapezius, rhomboid major, and levator scapulae muscles all work with the rotator cuff to move the arm.
The anatomy of the shoulder gives it the freedom to be the most mobile joint in all of the body. It's a complex and versatile structure.

Getting Waxing Treatments for Women

An extremely stressing situation for women is hirsutism, which also presents as a common symptom of poly cystic ovary syndrome. Male hormones such as testosterone are produced in excess which in turn is responsible for excessive hair growth and can appear on the chest, face, toes, neck and back. However, nowadays there are several different options available to women that want to remove excess hair from over the counter options to professional services. When searching for a solution one needs to determine what will work best as each method comes with pros and cons. For example shaving will cut the hair at the surface of the skin and will leave a blunt edge. The blunt edge tends to leave a noticeable darkened area, which means one has to shave daily to maintain a hair free appearance.
Shaving is a cheap alternative and time consuming as it needs to be done regularly which can promote ingrown hairs, razor cuts and cause skin irritations. On the other hand, waxing is one of the more popular methods of removing unwanted hair. Waxing treatments for women Greater Hunter region is where a layer of wax is applied to the surface of the skin and then quickly removed, which pulls the hairs out of the hair shaft. This hair removal method can be applied at home, but preferably it should be done at a beauty salon. Waxing treatments last for around three weeks and are relatively cheap. Waxing kits for home use can be difficult to use, and can cause ingrown hairs if not applied correctly. Waxing can be painful and is not a permanent solution.
There are also bleaches and depilatory creams that comprise of a combination of chemicals that dissolve the hair, while bleaches remove the color pigment. These methods are simple to use but can cause stinging and serious skin irritations and are also time consuming. For permanent hair removal, one can opt for electrolysis whereby a tiny needle is inserted into the hair follicle, and a small electrical current is applied to kill the hair follicle. However, hair that is dark and thick may require several treatments in order to kill the follicle permanently, which usually does not have any side effects.
Some women consider electrolysis to be painful and this method can be very costly, especially if one requires several treatments. Laser hair treatments are another popular option, which removes hair for much longer periods of time, although one may experience stinging during the procedure and side effects such as blistering, swelling, redness, pigment change or crusting. Laser treatments are also very costly. Waxing is still one of the top preferred methods of removing unwanted hair.

How to Get Rid of an Abscess

An 'Abscess' or a 'Boil', is a localized collection of pus (yellowish-white fluid) which occurs as a result of acute or chronic inflammation (body's immediate response to foreign agents: bacteria, viruses etc.) in a specific region of your body.
Abscesses can occur not only on the skin but also inside your lung, brain or any other organ and can lead to more complicated outcomes if not identified early. It is commonly referred to as a 'Boil' when it appears on your skin. And one of the worst things you can have is a 'tooth abscess' which can be really painful.
When there is ongoing inflammation somewhere; the affected cells start to swell, redden, increase in temperature and produce an exudate (pus) which comes out as a fluid filled red-hot boil. Abscesses themselves are not contagious, but the infection-causing bacteria such as Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas are. These bacteria start to colonize our skin when our hygiene becomes poor or when our immunity is compromised.
You will have to seek medical care if;
• You have a boil larger than 1 cm or a half-inch across,
• The boil continues to enlarge or becomes more painful,
• The boil is on or near your rectal or groin area,
• You have an associated fever of 101.5°F or higher,
• You have a red streak going away from the abscess,
• You have tender, swollen lymph nodes in the proximity,
• You have any medical conditions such as cancer or diabetes, or
• You are on any long term drugs which can compromise your immunity.
Most boils resolve spontaneously or with minor home remedies such as hot packs and hot baths. Heating the area increase the blood flow to the abscess, and brings in more white blood cells and other blood components which improve the body's ability to fight the causative agent.
The ones which don't may require surgical drainage, where your doctor will cut the abscess open and drain the pus. This procedure involves the following steps:
1. The area around the Abscess will be numbed.
The doctor will inject an anesthetic drug (e.g. Lignocaine) to the area around the abscess. You will feel what is being done, but you won't feel the pain. While most of the abscesses are drained under local anesthesia which benumbs only the affected area, some may require sedation or general anesthesia.
2. The area around the abscess will be cleaned.
The surrounding area will be covered with sterile towels and will be cleaned by an antiseptic solution.
3. The abscess will be cut open.
The doctor will cut the abscess open with the scalpel, drain all the pus and debris out of it, and clean the whole area.
4. The remaining cavity will be packed and bandaged.
Once the abscess is completely drained, the remaining cavity like lesion requires packing with gauze to minimize bleeding and exposure. A bandage will be placed over the packing and general instructions about home care will be given.
5. Antibiotics and pain killers will be given.
The doctor will prescribe you antibiotics to cure the infection and to prevent further infection. Also if you are still in pain, pain killers will relieve you.
6. Follow up.
The doctor may ask you to remove the packing yourself after 2-3 days, with soaking and flushing. You will have to contact your doctor if there is increased pain, poorly healed wound or persistent fever.
While most of the Abscesses we encounter in our day to day life are skin or tooth abscesses, they can rarely occur within our internal organs as well. These are diagnosed by symptoms, signs, lab tests and radiological investigations (e.g. X-ray).
After reading everything about cure, some of you might be wondering about prevention. Well... it is simple, just focus on keeping your body and environment clean!
