How to Get Rid of Cellulite Quickly and Permanently

One of the most difficult and confusing things for many women is cellulite - that unsightly, bumpy look on your hips, buns, legs and thighs. It's a subject with lots of myths and misunderstandings, and those myths and misunderstandings create the confusion and cause many of the difficulties. It's hard to solve a problem when it's so difficult to understand the truth about the problem and the real solutions that are available.
Fortunately, it's easy to get to the truth and learn how to really solve the cellulite problem. It just takes some basic understanding of the muscular structure of a woman's body and some knowledge of how to address the true underlying issue of cellulite. Once you have that information you are well equipped to understand how to get rid of cellulite and keep it off.
So What is Cellulite, Really?
Cellulite is actually a layer of body fat below the skin that covers your hips, buns, and legs. Because of the normal muscular structure in these areas, the fatty tissue on top of those muscles creates that characteristic bumpy, dimpled appearance on these areas.
Many women think cellulite is a skin condition. This is simply one of the many myths about cellulite. As explained above, cellulite is actually the fat layer beneath the skin, almost always in the areas of the hips, buttocks, legs, and thighs.
Another myth is that cellulite is a genetic condition. This is also a misunderstanding about cellulite. While it is likely that the daughter of a woman who has cellulite will also have it, this is actually more a matter of the eating and exercise habits of the two than genetics.
A little bit of information is a powerful thing. By understanding what cellulite really is you are better informed about how to get rid of cellulite and keep it off.
Know What Will Make Your Cellulite Worse
While it's helpful to know what cellulite is so you can properly reduce it, you also should know what will make it worse. That allows you to easily put together a comprehensive plan to get rid of cellulite forever.
There are two things that cause cellulite: food and a lack of exercise. To be more precise, eating the wrong kinds of foods and not enough of the right kinds of foods contributes significantly to body fat, and in turn, to the cellulite around your hips and legs.
A lack of exercise contributes to the cellulite problem. Your body either uses the food you eat to fuel your activities or stores the excess calories you consume as fat. So a lack of exercise reduces the chances of having your body burn calories.
Once you understand these two concepts it is a simple matter to start taking action to eliminate the cellulite. And when you're armed with this information you can keep the cellulite off forever.
Know How to Get Rid Of It
If you don't get enough of the right kinds of exercise and have cellulite on your hips and legs, you're your plan of action is pretty simple:
  • Adjust your diet to reduce or eliminate the foods that contribute to that dimpled, "orange peel" look
  • At the same time, incorporate more of the foods that can help reduce body fat by improving your metabolism
  • Start doing the exercises that will attack the cellulite and remove it from your body
  • Be sure to drink plenty of water each day
Simple But Effective Changes in Your Diet
The foods to eliminate include sugary and high fat foods. They both slow down your metabolism and contribute an excessive amount of calories.
The calories from sugar get converted into body fat, and that conversion makes it especially difficult to get rid of cellulite. Avoid artificial sweeteners, too. They may not have any calories, but they contribute to a desire to consume sweets and make it harder for you to avoid sugary foods and beverages.
The calories in dietary fat also contribute to body fat. Certain types of fats in your diet should be eliminated entirely, like trans-fats. Trans-fats are fats that are solid at room temperature. They are labeled in foods as "partially hydrogenated" or "hydrogenated" and they are directly correlated to an increased risk of heart disease.
Add fruits and vegetables, especially green, leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, broccoli, and collards to include essential antioxidants and fiber in your diet. Include some nuts like walnuts, pecans, and cashews since they have fats that are beneficial along with other nutrients.
Exercise to Burn Off Fat
For many women, the idea of doing exercises to burn off the fat around the hips and legs conjures up images of spending hours in a fitness center under the glaring stares of other trim and fit people. It doesn't have to be that way. In fact, you don't even have to go to a fitness center to get the exercise you need.
First, understand that any exercise will help. Simply walking for 20 to 30 minutes a day, several times a week, will provide a big boost to your metabolism and burn off lots of calories.
But to really hit those trouble zones around your hips and legs, you need to do exercises that target the muscles in those areas. These exercises will be especially beneficial in burning off the cellulite.
The best exercise to target those muscle groups is squats. Simple and effective, they hit those muscles and give you an additional boost by being an exercise that is especially good at raising your metabolism and burning off the calories.
If you have some weights you can use them to increase the effectiveness of the squats, but that's not essential. Without weights, stand with your feet about shoulder width apart, extend your arms out in front of you and then squat until your thighs are parallel to the floor. Raise up again, holding your arms straight out in front of you to complete one repetition.
Squats will not only help burn off the cellulite, they will also help tone the muscles in your buns, thighs, and legs so you'll feel better when it's time to pull on a pair of shorts or a bathing suit.
With these simple nutrition and exercise tips, you have the information you need about how to get rid of cellulite and keep it off permanently. Put these tips to work so you can have the body you want.
