Eat More, Weigh Less

When people get fat, they go on a diet. It's almost as predictable as the sun rising in the east. It stands to reason that people who put on weight should go on a diet. After all, the reason you put on weight is because you're eating too much. However, as you go in and out of the dieting game, you may notice that it's not as effective as it used to be. Some people would even feel that the more they go on a diet, the more they get fat. They feel like failures. However, what they don't know is that it's not them. It's the diet that failed them.
The body always strives for balance, but when you go on a diet, the body perceives that it does not have enough calories to function. To manage this shortage, it slows down metabolism. The body also begins to store fat at this stage. At first, dieting gave you the weight loss you were aiming for. As the pattern was repeated over and over again, the results became disappointing. The body has begun to anticipate periods of famine that each successive diet brings. When you are on a diet, the body slows down metabolism. It also begins to hoard fat. Essentially, the body becomes a very efficient fat storing machine. It prepares for the periods of famine you subject it to by saving some of the fat that you consume. This is one of the reasons why subjecting yourself to frequent extreme dieting does not work.
Going on restrictive diets affects your general well being too. You feel exhausted, tired, demotivated, irritable or maybe depressed. Food is fuel for the body, and because of this, the brain is especially sensitive to food shortage. That's why when we're hungry, we get headaches, moodiness and anxiety. Often, when you are not getting enough food, you get sick. You are prone to injuries and even bone fractures. Women can even experience menstrual irregularity. You just don't function very well at all, because it is food that fuels the body. When you restrict your food intake, your body does not function at its best. So your food choices should consist of whole grains, protein sources, vegetables and fruits and just a little fat.
When you go on a diet, you deprive yourself of certain foods. Most often, these are your favorite foods. Of course, you anticipate that after dieting, you'll be able to eat them again. The problem with this is that you might be overeating later. This is the problem that usually plagues those who deprive themselves. There will be an uncontrollable urge to eat more than you need or want. Physically, the body drives you to eat more because it just went through a famine period, namely, your diet. Emotionally, you get obsessed with food because you felt deprived. This is another reason why diets don't work in the long run.
Eating a well balanced meal in adequate amounts is what ensures a healthy body. Eating also ensures that your metabolism is running at top speed. When your calorie consumption is equal or lesser than your expenditure, you will never gain weight.
