Life As an Empath

My mother was a firm believer in the term "tough love" and when I did something bad, I was going to hear about it. In fact, even when I didn't do anything bad, I was still going to hear about it, and so would half the block. And while now I can look back on my past lovingly and understand that I was dealing with a victim of an extremely large ego, as a child, I simply didn't have the awareness to comprehend this notion. Now, I know that if one doesn't take the time to question their beliefs, they may come to realize later on that they've been living their entire lives with the beliefs and values of others. And often, these beliefs can be harmful to not only others, but to the Self. I'm thankful for this knowledge, and I'm actually grateful for any suffering I endured throughout my childhood, because it brought me to this realization. My pain helped me awaken to the truth of how we choose our thoughts and create our reality.
It took me until my late teenage years to really start questioning my own belief patterns. Up until then I had been like a psychic sponge, taking on anyone else's ideas and opinions about me. It started to dawn on me that I had been the victim of a victim of a victim, etc... and that it was up to ME to question the root of the ideas that shaped how I viewed myself and the world. I did some deep self-investigating, removing my limiting beliefs and replacing them with ones that empowered me. I took responsibility for my life and forgave the people who I had once blamed for my lack of self-confidence. I began to wake up to my power and it became easier and easier to speak my truth. I began to love myself for exactly who I was and I grew to learn that I could be myself around other people without fear, but strangely the anxiety was still there...
Being highly intuitive, able to understand and sense from a young age that I was much more than flesh and blood, I was naturally extremely sensitive to energy. At age 13 I taught myself how to meditate and work with my own energy. I became very aware of my inner body and the energy of others. I often tuned into this frequency, to this level of reality more so than the one I could see with my eyes. I became intensely fascinated with learning how to sense others' energy and left myself open to "read" them. And while this opened up a new and exciting world for me to discover, it also bought on a whole slew of problems. I didn't realize that I had to close myself off sometimes, that I had to learn how to protect myself from all the psychic sludge other people were giving off.
Into my mid-twenties I continued to be able to sense and feel others' energy fields. And while this made it easy to get along with people who were on the same frequency as me, it made it extremely difficult to even be in the same room as people who were on a vibration that clashed with my own. I began to notice that my social anxiety, though partially due to my belief systems, could mostly be attributed to feeling the thoughts and emotions of others. When someone around me was anxious, I became anxious. I actually took on their pain. And I couldn't differentiate between my pain and someone else's.
This extreme sensitivity made working around lots of stressed-out people almost impossible, though I still found myself drawn to jobs where I would get to deal with people on a regular basis. After reclaiming my power and re-programming my belief systems, I felt more comfortable around people, but I went from one job to the next, either quitting or getting fired because I just couldn't take all the stress. I began to question whether I was spoiled or if there was truly something wrong with me. Why couldn't I just hold down a job? Why couldn't I just go to work, deal with people, and come home and relax? Working at a coffee shop was supposed to be charming wasn't it? I was smart, able-bodied. What was wrong with me? Why couldn't I just laugh off the stress?
It was after recently seeing a Qigong healer that I realized fully that I was responsible for all the stress I was feeling. It was me who was leaving myself too open. It was me who had decided to take on everybody's pain. I just hadn't been conscious of it. Once again I had to re-program myself. I started to pay attention to my aura. Up until seeing this healer, I had never really stopped to sense my aura. I had only been interested in sensing and balancing out my nadis, or energy channels in my body. I had to change my perspective completely and train myself to become intensely aware of my field of protection. I learned that I could contract or expand my aura, that I could make it fluid and yet strong through simply becoming present and aware of it like I had done with my energetic body. And in doing so, I put space around myself and the challenges I was facing.
Now I can confidently be around big groups of people without taking on their stress. I've learned to ask myself the right questions: Are these my thoughts and emotions or someone else's? Where is my aura? What's going on inside of it? I've learned to stand my ground, to remain in my own protective circle of light, and to always speak from the heart. I understand that it's okay for me to not pay attention to that which doesn't serve me.
I can honestly say that I'm no longer a victim. I've learned to take responsibility for my life. I dug down deep and dared to question WHY? And trusted the answers that came from my heart. And while I still sometimes find myself soaking up others' stress, I have the awareness to catch myself in the act and stop.
I know that I still have work to do on myself, but I've learned to stop judging and labelling situations and people as negative. Instead I've come to view every challenge life throws at me as an opportunity for growth and expansion. I'm thankful for my extreme sensitivity and realize that all the stress and pain of growing up "different" has humbled me and helped me connect to the world on a much deeper level.
So the next time you're feeling stressed out, ask yourself: Where is this stress coming from? An old belief pattern that I haven't let go of... or am I taking on someone else's pain.
Being highly empathic will bring its difficulties, but the rewards are so worth it, so don't worry if you're having difficulties with people. Don't reject or be afraid of your amazing abilities! Know that you're in exactly the place you need to be in for your own spiritual development.
Remember, you're in charge of your thoughts and emotions! You can't control other people but you can control how you react to them. It's never the situation that makes you upset, just your thoughts about it. Take time to become still and learn to become the observer of your Self. Get in touch with your body. Take deep breaths and let life flow.

Seasonal Allergies

Has anybody noticed that the days are getting longer, and the sun seems a little stronger than usual? I know it's only March, but could it be that spring is on its way in Canada? For many of us the idea of spring brings thoughts of being outside, enjoying life, and letting go of the old winter doldrums. But wait a minute! Not everybody enjoys the spring - what about those with allergies? I mean allergies to grasses, pollens, trees, ragweed, and other common allergens, that bother us between the melting snow and the frost of October. Allergy season is the season that literally millions of people dread. Actually you can get seasonal allergies at any time of the year -- it just depends to what you are allergic. If it's dust or mold, then you are more likely to first experience symptoms in the Fall when the furnace is turned on and you close the windows, and to find them easing in the Spring, when you do the opposite.
Most people think of allergies as starting in the spring and often going through until the first frost. This is when people who are allergic to grasses and pollens have a really bad time. The symptoms of nasal congestion (rhinitis), and itchy, watery eyes (conjunctivitis), are more than some can bear. Perhaps the worst symptom of all is the extreme fatigue that accompanies these symptoms. Some are luckier than others -- they get a short season of pollen allergy in the first part of spring and then they are free. Others have allergy symptoms all summer long with symptoms of reactivity to grasses in the mid-summer months, and then finally ragweed beginning around August 15th. However long you have symptoms, they are always miserable although never serious, unless you have asthma as well.
Allergies occur when the immune system overreacts to a harmless substance. Your body is trying to defend itself against a foreign invader, much as it would against a bacteria or virus that could cause you an infection. Thus it mounts an immune response - rallying the forces against this intruder. Since you are continually breathing in the substance, your loyal body continually tries to defend against it. What a mistake -- grasses and pollens are actually harmless!
When allergies occur the body releases histamine, causing increased secretions and inflammation which cause the symptoms that make you feel so miserable. Drugs that prevent histamine release are called anti-histamines, and there are many on the market. They can reduce symptoms, but they do not cure the problem. They can also produce nasty side-effects such as drowsiness and more of the fatigue you already have. The newer anti-histamines such as Claritin and Reactine are less apt to cause these side effects, but still seem to in some people. You certainly can't go running through those green fields as the advertisements on television would suggest!
There are more 'natural' approaches you might want to try. Anything that can reduce histamine release may help. Here are some natural supplements that may help, and certainly won't hurt to try:
  • Vitamin C -- 1000 mg. 3-5 times daily taken through the day with meals. Do not use the timed release variety for this purpose. Vitamin C is an anti-histamine in large doses
  • Pantothenic Acid -- one of the B complex vitamins -- in a dose of 250 mg twice daily with meals. This is often sold as Calcium Pantothenate.
  • Citrus Bioflavinoids in a dose of 500 mg. three times a day with meals. All of the above tend to stabilize the mast cells -- those cells that react when the allergen is inhaled and produce histamine. You will need to take all of these through the whole season in which you usually manifest symptoms.
Homeopathic remedies can also be helpful. They are very dilute samples of what you are allergic to, and must be taken beforethe season starts. Pollens 30CH (Borion) are a homeopathic mixture of Canadian pollens and grasses (including Ragweed), obtainable from most health food stores and some pharmacies in Canada. They come in packs of 6 doses, each dose being in one small tube. You place the whole tube of granules under the tongue, and let them dissolve, once a week through the season. Homeopathic remedies should be taken in a clean mouth - between, or one hour before meals, and without the interference of toothpaste or mouthwash, that may inactivate them.
If you know exactly what you are allergic to you can take individual homeopathic remedies such as mixtures of Grasses or Pollens or even Dust Mix. They should be taken in gradually increasing doses following the directions on the bottle -- and often come in liquids, in a glycerin or alcohol base. All homeopathic remedies can be taken in addition to the vitamin supplements mentioned above. Homeopathic remedies have no side effects, and have been shown to be superior to placebo in properly conducted clinical trials. For Ragweed sufferers, there is an antigen called Pollinex R This is a prescription medication of modified ragweed that can be injected once a week by your doctor for four weeks beforethe onset of the Ragweed season which begins like clockwork on or about the 15th August. Ask your family doctor to give this to you. None of the above will cause the nasty side-effects of some of the anti-histamines, and are often as, or even more, effective. Regular allergy shots can also be given by your family doctor, but they often have to be given for many years before they work.
Make sure you have a proper diagnosis before you self-treat any health condition. That is, if you have a dust allergy through the year, but minor or absent symptoms, you have allergies to pollens and grasses, then it helps to reduce the total load of allergies by reducing your exposure to dust as much as possible. So first reduce exposure as much as possible to any allergen; then take the vitamin supplements listed, and then add the homeopathic remedies. The positive effects of all of the above suggestions are, of course, enhanced by a healthy diet and good stress management.
There are four basic principles to health:
1. Good nutrition
2. Good exercise
3. Good thinking and emotional states
4. Good self-care
These embrace the mind, body and spirit of good health and well-being. This article and Dr. Leyton's monthly newsletter addresses one or more or more of these principles. These health tips are short and simple. All tips, where applicable, are based on quality research that is being done in the medical field.

Vision Care and Cataracts

Are you or does someone you know have any of these symptoms?
· Cloudy, fuzzy, foggy, or filmy vision
· Loss of color intensity
· Frequent changes in eyeglass prescription
· Bright lights causing a glare and vision problems at night
· Increased sensitivity to glare from lamps or the sun
· Double vision
· Decreased sensitivity to colours and shades
These are some of the common symptoms people have when they are dealing with cataracts. These are reasons to see your doctor or optometrist regardless of the time. Any changes to your vision require attention.
Cataracts affect thousands of Canadians each year. It's a debilitating and hard thing to deal with, yet there are ways in which you can treat them.
What are cataracts?
A cataract is a cloudy area that lies within the lens of the eye. Normally the lens would be clear, but this cloudy covering can interfere with your vision and day to day life and needs the attention of a professional to take care of it.
Cataracts are rarely seen in infants or children. It can however be congenital, which means it may run in the family. Cataracts form often in adulthood, and can be caused by a number of things.
Some of the things that can cause cataracts to form are; certain medications, diabetes, infections, metabolic diseases, among other factors. Cataracts are treatable, but it is something you need to see a professional about.
Your doctor may order some tests to be done to help determine you're visual concerns. He/she may order a Glare Test or a test to test Contrast Sensitivity. There are other tests which they may determine to do, depending on your individual needs.
The need for surgery comes when 'normal living' becomes and issue. This surgery is usually done as an outpatient procedure and does not necessarily require general anesthesia. Although, for minor cases there may be some treatments your doctor will be able to try such as; a change of glasses, or using a magnifying lens, not cures, more of an alternative. Many choose the surgery to reap the benefits of clearer vision again.
Although cataracts can be a nuisance and can hinder life, this problem is one your doctor sees often; he or she will ensure you are led through the process of regaining your sight and your independence once again.
Again, when you find that your sight isn't what it should be, see your doctor. Your best chance for making it better is 'seeing' it through, not ignoring it.
See your doctor and you will see things in a whole new light!

Delaying Sciatica Surgery Doesn't Worsen Prognosis

Generally when you have a health condition, early treatment is best. This is likely true for sciatica, a condition characterized by impingement of the sciatic nerve in the lower back. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body, extending from the lumbar vertebrae down the back of the leg to the foot on each side of the body.
The most common cause of sciatica is a herniated disc in the lumbar spine. Spinal discs are composed of a tough exterior and a gel-like center, similar to a jelly doughnut. Through wear and tear, improper body mechanics, excess weight or traumatic injury, the exterior of a disc can crack and the fluid center can leak out. This fluid contains inflammatory chemicals; if it makes contacts with the sciatic nerve exiting the spine, it can cause sciatica. Alternatively, if the exterior of the disc weakens but doesn't crack, the fluid may be pressed to the weaker side of the disc, and the bulge it creates can press against the nerve.
Early Treatment: Surgery?
One common treatment approach for herniated discs is discectomy. This may consist in a minimally-invasive procedure, called a microdiscectomy, in which a small incision is made and small amounts of disc material are removed. Some people, however, have larger and more invasive procedures.
Should patients seek out surgery right away with sciatica? Generally, the rule of thumb concerning back surgery is to leave it as a last resort. However, patients may be concerned that putting it off will worsen their prognosis. Fortunately, there has been research into this very question that can help patients make a decision.
Some research compares long-term results of conservative care versus surgery for sciatica; one study actually assesses whether duration of preoperative sciatica impacts outcomes.
A systematic review analyzed several studies that sought to compare long-term outcomes of surgery versus conservative/usual care, two of which had low bias risk. In one, patients who had severe sciatica for 6 to 12 weeks were randomized into early surgery or conservative care groups. Thirty-nine percent of the patients in the conservative care group went on to have surgery after 19 weeks. Patients who received early surgery had quicker pain relief than those who forewent surgery. However, at the one- and two-year follow-ups, both groups had similar, satisfactory outcomes.
Another, larger study with low bias risk suggested similar conclusions. At the two-year follow-up, patients who received surgery and those who did not had comparable improvement results on all measures. Forty-five percent of those originally placed in the conservative care group went on to have surgery. The two studies with high bias risk included in the review had similar results: no long-term differences in outcomes.
Some patients in conservative care go on to have surgery. For these patients, does waiting harm their prognosis? A study released in 2014 concluded that it likely does not. Researchers categorized 240 patients according to whether their preoperative symptoms were present for more or less than one year. With a mean follow-up time of 33.7 months post-surgery, they found that the duration of symptoms prior to surgery had no significant impact on pain and disability outcomes. See more on this at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24616807.
The decision to have or delay surgery for sciatica should depend on how severe the symptoms are. Based on the state of the research, patients should not fear that delaying surgery will worsen their prognosis. This is all the more reason to pursue conservative treatments, including physical therapy and inversion therapy, whenever possible.

Reduce Stress With Massage Therapy

A professional massage helps you relax your mind, body, and rejuvenates your sense. No wonder, there is a huge demand for professional massage therapists, who charge a good amount of money to provide these services. A perfect massage makes you feel great and also has numerous health benefits which you might not be aware of.
The massage therapist works on your neck, arms, back, legs and head. Many studies prove that a proper massage eases your stress level and lowers blood pressure. An effective massage therapy also affects a person's heart rate, and thus safeguards from various critical health problems including cardiac diseases and strokes.
In fact, this therapy is believed to be a boon for people dealing with various types of mental health conditions. Often psychiatrists recommend massage to help their patients alleviate symptoms related to depression, anxiety, and other mental health problems. Though the mechanism with which massage therapy works is still unknown, but there is no doubt in its effectiveness. It helps you feel relaxed and stimulates various functions within your body including brain's production of endorphins and serotonin. While endorphins act as a natural pain killer, serotonin is a mood-enhancing substance.
It is a preferred by many professional and athletes and it helps them feel relaxed before they play. You can also enjoy the health benefits of massage therapy as it also minimizes the pain, inflammation, and problems related to osteoporosis, arthritis, asthma, and diabetes.
Massage therapy is good for almost everyone, and if taken from an expert massage therapist, it relieves you from day-to-day stress, eases pain and inflammation, and helps you live longer.

Obesity: A Real Health Concern That We Need To Consider

How many times have you heard somebody say complacently, "you know that I cannot help being fat, because it is in the genes!" as he tucks in a huge platter full of french fries and fried chicken, washed down with beer. Well, obesity is definitely a real health concern that we need to consider right now. Obesity is an epidemic which can be controlled. Some people are under the impression that just because their parents were fat and they are fat, they are going to gain more weight even if they eat a healthy diet.
So the excuse that you are genetically predisposed to obesity and that is why, you have full leeway to eat junk, because what is bred in the bone is going to come out in the flesh or spirit, is nonsense. There is absolutely no reason why your child should be considered obese when you can control this health condition and state with a little bit of responsible action on your part.
Firstly, parents with obese children need to take the responsibility of that particular state on themselves. They cannot act like ostriches and say defensively, "well, I have been feeding him a healthy diet four times a day. He is allowed to eat whatever he wants, and he is getting his proteins and carbohydrates from chicken and potatoes, is not he? What more do you expect from me?"
Well, one expects more, a lot more, especially if the child has grown all obese due to the negligence of the parents. Yes, negligence. Feeding a child because he needs fattening up to show your love and affection for him and not making certain about what you are feeding him is the easiest way in which you can destroy a state of good health. Grandparents, unfortunately have a tendency of doing that because they consider their grandchildren not well-nourished enough! A child need spoiling is another excuse which they are going to use, to feed children fatty foods, foods high in sugar content, and other such food items, which you definitely cannot count in the healthy food category.
So remember that proper nutrition and a proper diet along with an active lifestyle is going to keep your child fit and healthy, instead of making it look like an obese porcupine. A fat child is not cute; any mental attitude which says that a well covered child is healthy and strong needs to be changed immediately. In the same manner, the idea that he is going to lose his puppy fat when he grows up and children look good if they are chubby needs to be reconsidered right now.
If a child grows up to be obese, there is a chance that he is going to be an obese adult. He is also going to suffer from a number of diseases like diabetes, stomach problems, blood pressure problems, hypertension, and heart problems. He is definitely not going to thank you for feeding him indiscriminately when he was a child and thus being the direct cause of such health problems. So obesity is a real health concern which we need to consider and tackle right away!

Custom Orthotics For Foot Stabilization

An orthotic is a customer device which is made from lightweight material. It can range from a very complicated device that you have custom made for your use, to a very simple one that you can buy over the counter. The more complicated variety require different methods to create of course. There is a great deal of difference between a custom made orthotic and one that you buy at a general store. The custom variety require that you have custom impressions and casting, a well as the use of computers in order to create them.
The mass made variety dont' always do the job. The do not necessarily correct the problems that the user may have and in many cases do not offer the support that you need for your feet. Custom orthotics for foot stabilization are required for many different reasons.
The orthotics that you will order custom made are designed to deliver relief from tendonitis, from plantar fascitis, tarsal tunnel syndrome, bunions, and many other issues. If these are conditions from which you suffer, it may be that a custom made orthotic is the right answer for you.
Orthotics can help to restore your ability to walk without pain or discomfort. They may also help you to be able to run, to walk and to even jump more effectively and without pain. They can help to lower the pain, to help to increase your mobility and stability on your feet, to offer you better support for arches and even to lower the swelling that takes place from affected areas.
Custom orthotics for foot stabilization can help to keep the foot seated in the shoe in the way that it should be. This can help to keep you more stable on your feet and to protect your other joints. When the foot is not sitting as it should be and is not immobile in the shoe, the foot can move around and sit in a position which is not good for you or for your other body parts.
Just a few of the custom foot orthotics that you may see in use include the heel flares, that help to resist foot inversion or eversion, the extended heels, which provide arch support, the heel elevator that lifts one foot a bit higher to help it match the other leg, and the heel wedge that can promote inversion. There are others, including metatarsal bars, sole flares, toe crests and many others, each of which can offer you the support that you need to help you to be more active and to help you to move around with less pain and problems.
The custom orthotics for foot stabilization may be just one of several ways that your medical provider recommends to help to keep you more mobile and pain free.

Relieve Hand And Wrist Pain - My Simple Way To Block Out The Pain

Why put up with hand and wrist pain when you don't have to. If you are at all like me and suffer from RSI, tendon, muscle and the occasional pinched nerve in your hands and wrists, maybe you should try my simple but effective solution that may help you control your pain.
For over ten years now I have suffered from sore and painful hands and wrists especially when I play golf or do physical activities that puts pressure on my hands and wrists. Even doing simple things like picking up a mug of tea or coffee can often cause a sharp wrist twinge.
Over the years I've tried things like regular hand and wrist bandages, straps, supports, ointments, cold and heat packs and rigid taping. Some of these worked to a point but none of them really relieved or got down to where the real pain originated.
So after many attempts I came up with a method that has worked for me for many years now. Using this technique allows me to continue playing golf and do many other physical activities that I've had to avoid in the past. I'm not suggesting my method will work for every ones hand and wrist problems -- but it just might help some people. I doubt it will work or be of any benefit for arthritis joint pain.
The general idea is to tackle your hand and wrist pain directly at its source to relieve the cause of the pain with pressure, offer some support and a little heat. This is a short-term solution to be done only whilst you are engaged in the activity, then you remove the tapings and discard them.
I don't technically understand how or why my method works, all I know and care about is that it does give me hand and wrist pain relief.
The first item I use is regular blu-tack that can be bought in strips for a few dollars from your local newsagent or office supply store. I use about 7 or 8 pieces rolled into little balls for each hand depending on the location points of the pain at the time, it is rolled into various size balls which are then placed on the appropriate areas.
Next I use precut strips of rigid tape or Kinesio Tex tape which has more stretch to cover each of the pieces of blue-tack to hold them in place, this also applies some moderate pressure on the blu-tack balls.
The final step is to pull on elastic bandage over the tapes to hold them in place and apply some more pressure. The blu-tack gets gradually pushed down further into the painful area, which gives the relief.
Often when I grip my golf club with my right hand I can barely hold it because of the pain in the thumb and index finger joint, however after applying my blu-tack, tape and elastic bandage method I no longer experience the pain in this particular V joint.
I also have an injury of 15 years to the outside of my left wrist. I've had scans, x-rays, cortisone injections and 5 different opinions as to what the problem is, however no one came up with a definite or satisfactory diagnosis or solution, My method is the only one I've tried that gives me relief when I play golf or do other physical activities involving the hands and wrists.
Make no mistake about it there are ways to get relief from hand and wrist problems without resorting to taking ibuprofen (NSAID) drugs all the time. From what I understand taking them over the long term is not a good thing to do because of the many potential side effects especially relating to your digestive system.
As I mentioned earlier in this article my method will not help everyone with hand and wrist pain. But on the other hand I'm sure there are many people similar to me that would get relief from their particular hand and wrist pain using my method, then be able to do the physical activities pain free they used to enjoy.
Using this technique has enabled me to play golf and do many physical activities again hand and wrist pain free. It may or may not work for you, but you will never know until you give it a try. Why is Eating Healthy Important?

It is indeed a basic question, "why is eating healthy important?" Put plainly, healthy eating is indispensable to developing and maintaining overall health. Even as early as life's conception in the womb, the foods and substances that the human body absorb affect total health and well-being.
In the olden days, healthy eating was simple. Life was laid-back and farms were cultivated without the use of harmful chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides. In these demanding times, where life is lived in a hurried pace, quick-eating and fast-foods have become difficult to avoid. People eat what's more readily available not having the time to cook and prepare healthy meals, often binging on processed and preserved foods that have a lot of chemicals and artificial substances on them.

Be reminded that what goes on inside your body dictate the state of your health because essentially you are what you eat. You are damaging your body system if the foods you ingest do nothing for your cells and tissues to grow and function well. Substances and chemicals that are put into processed foods today are hard to pronounce, and you may be one of the many who are not familiar with what they are and what they do to the human body. If you value your health, you should be more conscious about what you eat and make a conscious effort to learn about healthy eating as much as possible.
Basically we need to eat to supply our bodies with nutrients. Good foods contain nutrients (carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals) that provide us not only with fuel for energy, but also with the very substances that build new cells, develop and repair our bones, muscles and organ tissues and protect our bodies against disease. With the right type of fuel, the body springs to life and gathers a lot of energy enabling it to work properly. However, when wrong substances are fed into the human body, the cells and tissues weaken as a result of the hormonal imbalances created. Cellular oxidation accelerates which lead to damage in the body organs which ultimately advance to disorders and diseases.

The human body has an inimitable facility to survive even though it often suffers neglect from poor eating and nursed with pharmaceutical drugs. But when the crisis is drawn out, it causes confusion in the body, activating stressful reactions which lead to many sicknesses. You may have known that antioxidants play a role in protecting us from these free radicals and human body toxic triggers. And the best way to set this antioxidant shield is by continuously feeding what the human body cells need in order to function and grow normally which is through healthy eating.

Healthy eating can be achieved by learning important nutrition basics and incorporating them in your daily regimen. It is necessary to be knowledgeable in the area of proper nutrition and to point the answers to the question as to why is eating healthy important even to young children. The lessons we learn and apply early on will help us to reap and enjoy the effects and benefits in the long run.

How To Achieve Your Weight Loss Goals Without Harming Your Body

Are you interested in losing weight quickly? If you are, then you might be tempted to purchase dietary supplements that promise to help you lose belly fat or weight quickly. Now, most of these products are not FDA approved, though I am not saying that these products can be harmful to your body neither am I claiming they are not.
The fact is, most dietary supplements would promise to help you lose weight by either increasing your metabolism to burn the fats at a high rate or using these supplements as meal replacements. Doing crash diets is also a big no-no. So how can you lose weight, drop those pounds and look good in a fast and safe manner? This article provides some insights on how you can lose weight without putting in extra effort to it.
Keep a Food Diary
The best way to lose weight is to keep a food diary. Studies have shown that people tend to eat more without being aware of it. This more often than not results in hidden calories that we consume. Remember that Caesar dressing that you added to your veggie salad? How about the extra sauces you added to your spaghetti? Limiting your intake of these hidden calorie adders can mean that inch or two in your belly.
Get Someone to be your Weight Loss Buddy
Studies have shown that people who have a weight loss buddy tend to follow and stick to their diet regimen than those who do it alone. Cheating is more often done when one is also on a weight reduction program alone as one would have no one to answer to. Call it ego or call it pride, but if it keeps you from achieving your weight loss potential, then kick it out.
Do the Zero Calories Thingy
Ever heard of feeling full without consuming any calories? Well, drinking water can make you feel full without the calories! Do you know that Americans consume an average of 250 calories from drinking sodas alone? Some sodas claim that they contain zero calories; however the artificial sweeteners pack sugary sweetness that can cause harm to your body. Some people have developed diabetes from consuming too much soda, so if you want to live a healthy life, stick to water. You can add some lemon to zest it up especially if you are not a water fan.
Now these are just some helpful tips to start your weight loss regimen; sticking to just one or two of the things mentioned above would surely jumpstart your weight loss.

Vitamin C Serum to Recover From Winter Skin

Vitamin C Serum. Your skin is certainly not an island. Diet, lifestyle, genetics, the products you use, exercise, stress, exposure to environmental pollutants, and hormonal changes all play a role in the health and appearance of our skin. Because there are so many factors that affect our skin, there is no one ingredient or product that is the "be all and end all" for great looking skin. Just like the rest of our body, our skin needs a wide range of things to stay its best.
However, a lot of those components can be broken down into 2 types of factors: those that affect your skin from the inside out, and what can help from the outside in. A lot of us fear that we'll have to put up with the signs of aging. Truth is - there are some simple things we can do to minimize, if not outright prevent, the signs of aging. Let's take a look at some causes of aging, and the ones you can say bye-bye to!
Some aging factors are a result of heredity. Some of us may be more genetically predisposed to form wrinkles, have dryness, or lose vital skin components faster than others. There isn't a ton we can do to change our DNA, but some lifestyle adjustments may help keep the visible results of those factors at bay.
1) Stay hydrated! When our skin cells lose their hydration, they go from being plump, healthy cells to weak ones that cannot maintain the smooth, youthful appearance we strive for. You've probably heard this before, and there really is no shortcut for it: Drink lots of water! Common guidelines are 5-8 eight-ounce glasses, but feel free to check with your doctor or dietician to see if they have a different recommendation for you.
2) Exercise! According to dermatologist Ellen Marmur, MD, "Anything that promotes healthy circulation also helps keep your skin healthy and vibrant." By increasing blood flow, exercise helps nourish skin cells and keep them vital. "Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to working cells throughout the body, including the skin," says Marmur. In addition to providing oxygen, blood flow also helps carry away waste products, including free radicals, from working cells. You can think of it as cleansing your skin from the inside." Most experts agree that a thirty minute workout is more than enough for the average person. If you're headed outdoors to get your sweat on, though, make sure to protect your skin with sunscreen.
3) Eat a balanced diet, focused on foods that are natural anti-oxidants. It's no secret that free radicals are a major contributor to aging. Free radicals are highly unstable molecules that damage your healthy cells. Foods that are high in antioxidants help to neutralize free radicals, and prevent them from harming your skin. Foods rich in Vitamin C (citrus and berries, for example) are great at because Vitamin C is a potent anti oxidant.
4) Restore your Ceramides. Remember how we talked about hydration? Well, the waterproof barrier in our skin plays a big role in keeping moisture locked in. And a big part of that waterproof barrier is Ceramides. Ceramides are a molecule that exists in the stratum corneum - the outmost layer of our epidermis. This is the layer of our skin that stands between us and the environment. Unfortunately, as we age, our body produces fewer and fewer Ceramides. Worse, free radicals damage Ceramides we do have, which means our stratum corneum breaks down. This makes our skin less able to hold in moisture, leading to, and eventually wrinkles. Thankfully, there is a Plant-Derived equivalent to Ceramides called Phytoceramides. The Phytoceramides help take the place of the Ceramides we lose, restoring the skin barrier, locking moisture in, and keeping wrinkles at bay. Phytoceramides are available as an oral supplement. The optimal dosage is 350 mg of a wheat-based Phytoceramide (Those with Gluten Allergies will need non-wheat source like Rice). Remember, though - this takes time. The average adult has 22 pounds of skin. Moisturizing affects usually take 4 - 6 weeks, and wrinkle improvement can take 3 - 6 months on Phytoceramides.
So, now that we've covered what to do from the inside, let's tackle the outside:
4) Protect your skin from the sun. Many dermatologists agree that sun damage is the #1 aging culprit. UV damage is extremely harmful for the skin. It creates free radicals, damages skin fibers, and causes most of the wrinkles and age spots on our face. Make sure to use sun protection whenever you're headed out, even when it's cloudy. Just because you can't see the sun doesn't mean you're not exposing your skin to UV rays.
5) Use a Topical Serum, preferably one with Vitamin C. Serums are important for your skin because they act like liquid specialists. Serums have much smaller molecules than moisturizers, which means they're more likely to penetrate deep, and deliver all of their goodness into your skin. Look for a Serum with Vitamin C. Vitamin C is the only anti oxidant proven to help rebuild collagen, and it can help reverse sun damage, and lighten sun spots. Even though Vitamin C is great to take on the inside like we mentioned in Tip #3, some studies suggest that topical Vitamin C is actually 20x more effective at preventing signs of aging.
6) Moisturize! Women with well-hydrated faces develop persistent wrinkles more slowly than those with dry skin. Keeping your skin's cells plumped up with moisture is the key to complexion perfection. Pick a moisturizer with SPF for 1-2 punch of hydrated skin, and sun protection.

Nutritional Advice for Muscle-Building

Although you may commonly associate 'getting in shape' with losing fat and toning up, there are plenty of people out there whose main concern is not to lose weight, but to put it on. I'm talking about those of you who have been branded 'skinny' or 'lanky' their whole life, and avoid the gym by all means in the fear it will result in losing more weight.
This is a common misconception, but speaking from experience I can honestly say that it is possible to completely transform your body and gain the muscular, toned physique you've always yearned for but felt you'd never be able to achieve. If you want it however, you must to be prepared to work for it; muscle mass does not come fast, no matter your age, sex or body shape. But if you put in the effort by eating well and training hard, you can expect to achieve some fantastic results.
Nutrition
Nutrition really is the most important factor when it comes to gaining muscle mass - after all, if you don't consume more calories than you burn you will not gain, no matter how hard you train. The growth process requires a lot of calories, and managing to consume them every day can be harder than you may think. My advice is to eat three large meals, plus two or three smaller ones each day. This means preparing your food in advance so you've got healthy meals to eat when you're at work or on the go.
Protein
Protein is essential for growth and the building of new tissue as well as the repair of tissue that has been broken down (which happens when you work out). The general rule seems to be that you need between one to one and a half times your body weight in grams of protein if you want to consistently gain muscle. However, this will vary from person to person so you need to discover what works best for you. As you gain weight, you will have to increase your intake accordingly. Great sources of protein include red meat, fish, poultry breast, eggs, dairy and whey; the latter is the base of most of the protein shakes I drink post-workout.
Protein shakes are a low-cost option which work fine as a substitute for one of your 'smaller meals' throughout the day. I blend mine with skimmed milk, and eat a banana or a handful of unsalted nuts to accompany it post-workout at the gym. Refuelling immediately after training has worked wonders for me - it's at this time your body is craving the necessary nutrients needed to make its repairs. As they're liquid, protein shakes are also digested easier and faster than whole foods, whilst providing you with an excellent source of protein and carbs. They are also balanced appropriately for a post-workout meal, as they contain no fat or other elements that may hinder the digestive process. By getting the necessary nutrients to the source faster, your body will not be obligated to take from other stores it already has.
Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates often get a bad rep, but despite what Mr Atkins says, carbs are our friends! They are an essential macronutrient your body requires in order for it to be able to tap into its glycogen stores during a workout. If you don't eat enough of them, your body won't have any energy reserves and it will start to break down muscle instead.
Go for complex (healthy) carbs, such as oatmeal, bran and quinoa, as well as wholegrain alternatives to rice, pasta and bread. These will provide your body with lots of essential nutrients and release their energy slowly. Because complex carbohydrates are broken down slowly and have a low-glycaemic index, they are good food sources to eat post-workout and at breakfast time (the most important meal of the day!).
Fats
Fats cannot be broadly categorised, because not all sources are created equal. It is advised that about 20 - 30% of your daily calorie intake should be delivered from 'healthy fats'.
Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are what are known as 'good fats'. These are the ones you should be incorporating into your diet; evidence suggests eating 'healthy' fats is actually good for you! Most 'healthy' fats are derived from plant sources, and include foods such as fish, soya, tofu, seeds, nuts and plant-based cooking oils.
Saturated and trans fats are the 'bad fats'; these should make up less than 10% of our diet (saturates) and no more than 1% for trans fats. It will come as no surprise that these bad fats account for all those stereotypically 'unhealthy' foods such as ice cream, sweets, chocolate, fried food, butter, high-fat cuts of meat and packaged snack foods. These fats are generally derived from animal products and should be eaten in moderation.
Supplements
I wouldn't bother splashing out on all the fancy supplement fads that come and go; these tend to be a waste of money. There are already tried and tested products available that do exactly what you need them to, minus the hefty price tag. Stick to high-quality multi-vitamin tablets or mineral supplements that provide you with 100% of your daily RDA, as well as whey-based protein powder for protein shakes, and so on. Creatine is the only other supplement I incorporate in to my diet, as it helps increase pure muscle mass and regenerate muscles when you're not working out.
So there you have it, my nutritional guide to bulking. I hope this article will get you on your way to achieving your goals, and if you only take one things away from this, just remember that change doesn't happen overnight. You've got to keep at it, work hard and stick to your routine. If you slip up one day, don't beat yourself up about it or give up, just start afresh the next. Don't waste your money on expensive fancy supplements, and definitely don't give in to the temptation to cheat your way up to the top. Do it my way, do it the right way, and eventually you'll reap the rewards. Good luck!

Eyelash Extensions Laws

Eyelash Extensions Laws
Have you been thinking about getting certified to do lashes and are wondering what the laws are in your state? Did you know that in many states, it's illegal to apply false eyelashes without a license? Recently, the lash industry has flourished with stores, as well as boutiques popping up all over. It's literally a multi-billion dollar industry that continues to grow.
In the past, makeup artists could apply eyelash extensions to customers without having to worry about needing a licence. Unfortunately, that's all changed. There is a lot of misinformation out there about what the law is to apply eyelash extensions. Make sure to get the facts first.
How do I learn about the laws for applying eyelash extensions in my state?
Nearly every state has a Department of Professional Regulations. Before you spend hundreds of dollars on getting certified, check your state's requirements. For example, The Eyelash Extensions Laws IL makes it clear that only licensed estiticians and cosmetologist can do lashes. Many other jurisdictions have also beefed up their rules. In Texas, you must go to a certified eyelash extension training program before being permitted to work. Yes, this includes an exam.
Eyelash Training Certification Scams
There are many eyelash training schools which neglect to tell potential students that they should be licensed. They simply tell people to check with their state after they have paid for a workshop. Sadly, there are a lot of well intended makeup artists who wind up getting fined by the regulations board because a fly by night lash training program did not give the right information. There are however a lot of very good eyelash extension training programs. Just take the time to do a little research before jumping in. Nail salons are also under scrutiny. A licensed nail technician is not legally able to apply lashes most of the 50 states.
Why should you need licenes to do eyelashes?
Applying eyelash extensions requires the highest level of sanitation, skill and care. Would you really want someone working around sensitive areas of the skin and eyes without having had the utmost training? individual eyelashes are normally applied lash by lash, with various glues. If not placed on natural lashes correctly, lash adhesive can cause irritation to the skin and eyes. Getting false lashes isn't dangerous. In fact, visiting most eyelash salons can be a great experience. You just want to make sure that your providing the safest services possible without the risk of getting in trouble.
If you are considering doing lashes, check the State Laws where you live and make sure you know what's involved.

How to Create a Smokey Eye Look

Creating those smoldering eyes that have just a hint of sexiness and seductiveness is much easier than you think. This smokey eye technique will transform your look and help you to ooze sexiness on your next night out. Take your time with each step and in no time at all you will have completely changed the appearance of your eyes.
To start your transformation and create that smoky eye look you have to first determine the colors that you want to work with. The best choices for those who are looking for a sexy new look is to go with a black, grey, or a brown color of eye shadow. If you are feeling especially daring this evening you can go to the extreme and try a burgundy, plum, or navy eye shadow. Be certain to match the color of your eyeliner to pull off the smoky look successfully.
Begin this process by preparing your eye lid. You will need to apply a very thin layer of your foundation across the lids. If you have a concealer or a primer available these tend to pull off this look more successfully. They will help to keep the makeup on much longer through the evening and give you a more vibrant and bold appearance. Apply in a sweeping motion your flesh colored powder or shadow.
This is time for a steady hand. Take your pencil and begin tracing your lash line. To create the smoky look you have to work from the inside and make the lines thicker as you reach the end. Flick the pencil towards the end to give your eyes that cat eye look. Drawing along your inner rims will enhance this look and give your cat eye look a more intense feel. By drawing the inner rims you create more definition and help your eyes to stand out much more. Blending with a Q-Tip is recommended because you do not want the area to look heavy or clumsy.
Take out your brush and start to sweep on a light layer of shadow near your lash line using your eyeshadow brush. This will help to diffuse the eyeliner, and using lighter colors like pearl or white will work best. Once complete you need to use a darker color here and begin to cover the middle of your eye lid fanning in an outward motion towards the crease.
Continue working that area by tracing along the crease and socket. Once you have completed this area flick towards the corner of your eye brow with a much darker shade. When you pull off this step correctly you can add intense sexual appeal and definitive. When you are completed take a little nude shimmer and apply to your brow bone. This helps to bring attention to the highest point and accentuates your eyes.
Take your softest brush and blend all harsh lines that still appear. Sweeping under your eyes will pick up any residue that may have collected during the process. Using a white eye pencil to draw a line to your waterline and tear duct will give the appearance you have wider and sexier eyes. This also brings out the natural color of your eyes. To complete the look simply apply a few coats of your mascara to curled eye lashes. Your sexy smoky eye look is complete, no go out and turn some heads tonight.
