Some Examples On Natural Treatment For Yeast Infections

A vaginal yeast infection can be characterized by irritation, intense itchiness, and discharge. It affects the vagina and the surrounding tissues at the opening.
These infections can be very common. Four out of 5 women can get one at some point in their lifetimes. Men can also get them but not nearly as often as women.
Fortunately, yeast infections are not considered a sexually transmitted infection; they can however spread through oral-genital contact. Simple treatment to these infections can be effective. If you happen to have chronic infections, simple treatments may not be enough, and you may need to find the root of the cause or try alternative choices.
If you are a first time sufferer of a yeast infection, it is important to visit your doctor. If you are well acquainted with these infections, then it may be beneficial for you to find some natural treatments to relieve your systems.
Some risk factors to these infections can include:
Antibiotics
Increased Estrogen Levels ( usually from birth control)
Uncontrolled Diabetes
Sexual Activity
Poor Immune System
Too much sugar and carbohydrates
Treatment for these infections can vary. There have been a number of natural ways tested. Before trying any kind of natural treatment for a yeast infection, you should check with your doctor first to weigh the pros and cons of the situation.
Some examples of natural treatments are:
Yogurt - There has been some success with women who have tried lactobacillus-containing yogurt. The yogurt can be taken orally or applied vaginally. Studies that have shown yogurt to be effective to reduce yeast infections and provide relief with various groups of women. Those tested have had mild infections, as well as chronic ones.
Boric Acid - This can be a vaginal insert that is available by prescription. This can work well with chronic or ongoing symptoms that do not respond to other treatments. Boric acid may be effective against some less common strains of candida since some of these strains can be resistant to other treatments. The downfall is that this acid can irritate your skin and is also toxic if swallowed.
There are many other natural treatments that may benefit you but the two I mentioned above are very common. No matter what kind of natural treatment for a yeast infection you choose, it is always a smart idea to do your research first in order to not encounter any problems.

Tips for Soothing Your Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is a common problem, which many people experience. Skin that is prone to irritation or redness when a new product is applied, or develops an allergic reaction frequently, is considered as sensitive.
People who suffer from rosacea also have sensitive skin. It is believed that their skin becomes inflamed because of a fungal or bacterial infection, but the exact cause still has not been identified. Medicines can be used for treatment, but sometimes natural alternatives may be a better option. Substances which have anti-inflammatory properties can decrease the symptoms such as green tea, chamomile and R-Lipoic acid. In fact, these natural products also make the skin look younger. Contact dermatitis and eczema are also common diseases associated with sensitive skin.
So how can you treat your sensitive skin? Here are some suggestions which will soothe your skin.
Avoid using chemicals
Synthetic skin products contain many harsh chemicals that can cause your skin to dry. These products are then subjected to a process, known as ethoxylation, which can reduce the hardness of the chemicals. In turn, 1, 4-Dioxane is produced, a known cause of cancer. The best substitute to all these chemicals is to use products which contain natural ingredients and are less likely to be toxic.
Stay clear of products containing fragrance
Any skin product which contains fragrance should be avoided if you have sensitive skin. Even if the fragrance is natural, your skin may develop an allergic reaction against it. The same can also be said for essential oils.
Use neutral, fragrance-free cleansers and toners
Commercial cleansers and toners are alkaline based and will make your sensitive skin drier and more irritated. As such, you should use a cleanser that does not contain any strong chemicals like sodium laureth sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate or any fragrances. As for the toner, go for one that has no drying alcohol in it. After all, the less dry your skin is, the younger it appears.
Apply only a few products on your skin with the fewest ingredients
When you use more products with more ingredients, it just means you are applying a lot of substances to your skin. Should an irritation or allergic reaction develop, it will be difficult to figure out the exact ingredient which is causing the condition. As such, stick to certain products only which do not contain many ingredients.
Do not use colors or dyes
Colors and dyes may contain tar, which is toxic in nature. Any products which contain these must not be used.
Apply soothing substances to your skin
Soothing substances make your skin less dry and decrease the symptoms associated with skin conditions. These include almond oil, avocado oil, apricot kernel oil, and shea butter. You can also use calendula or chamomile for the same purpose. Hyaluronic acid is also a great choice because it softens and moisturizes your skin.

My Truth Behind Ear Cartilage Piercing Healing Time

I have wanted to write about this topic of ear cartilage piercing for so long, but I decided to wait until my second piercing fully healed without the slightest pain or redness. First off let me tell you ear cartilage piercing is "NOT" for everyone, because of the long and sometimes unbearably painful healing process. Think long and hard before you get this procedure done because you will have to endure plenty of times when you are uncomfortable.
When it comes to ear cartilage piercing the best method to get it done by is a sterilized needle specially made for the ear. This type of needle will cut your approximate healing time by a few months and it is highly unlikely to shatter your cartilage like the piercing gun would. I got both of my piercings by the gun and I paid a major price because of it, it wasn't because I neglected my healing process. Once you find a place to get your ear pierced whether a tattoo shop, or place like Piercing Pagoda (Where I went) find out the best type of earrings to get. Since I had purchased 1 carat diamond stud earrings the year before I decided I would buy the stainless steel and wear them until I fully healed.
Once you get the piercing clean your piercing twice daily with the included ear solution and the piercing and care literature. You can also use alcohol if you prefer with Q-tips, both are good for cleaning and reducing redness at times. You should also turn the earring after each cleaning, this will help with loosening the hole and not allowing crust to buildup around the earring hole, (this is painful). PLEASE refrain from unnecessary touching, this can cause your pain to increase substantially. When sleeping try not to sleep and apply pressure to the pierced ear, it will hurt, get numb, hurt worse and turn red. Also while you are healing keep your hair away from your earrings, this can cause the hair to get caught up and wrapped around between your ear and the earring, and will hurt when removed and if not can cause infection.
Now for both of my piercings the healing time was approximately 6 months. The misconception that I had to fight through was that after 24 hours. If there is still pain and redness take the earrings out immediately and go to the E.R. "NOT for Me" I kept on with my cleaning regimen and never experienced long-lasting massive swelling or even infection at ALL. Now don't get me wrong it was a very painful experience that I decided to get done "Twice" up until about the 6 month period I rarely was without any type of discomfort.
This is my experience and opinions that I am sharing with you. If this seems too intense for you and your tolerance for pain you may want to try alternative ways to jazz up your ears like; ear cuffs or ear magnets where piercing is not needed. Either way which ever decision you choose, make sure it is what you want and will sacrifice to endure, Happy Piercing!

Dental Care, Why Humans Have It Easy

We often slack on our dental care, saying we don't have time for proper cleaning. Imagine if animals had the same dental routines that we do! Then, you might appreciate your pearly whites.
The Dragonfish
The dragonfish lives in the deepest waters of the ocean and is virtually blind. Creatures of the deep need to adapt other ways to grab their prey. The dragonfish not only has a set of tremendously intimidating chompers, but also grows teeth on its tongue!
Crocodile
Not only do crocodiles have approximately 70 teeth, but they replace them nearly 40 times within their lifespan. That's a lot of teeth!
Megalodon
The prehistoric shark had large teeth to match the large size of its prey. When examined, their teeth look more like spearheads, measuring in around 7 inches long.
Walrus
Those huge tusks that walruses are well-known for are actually teeth. The elongated canines can grow as long as 10 feet, and weigh more than 200 pounds. The same goes for elephant tusks. Imagine the size of the toothbrush you would need!
So, think again whenever you try to think of excuses to put off regular dental care. The average adult human has only 32 teeth, each of which is less than 10mm long. To properly care for your teeth, you should brush your teeth after every meal. Brushing immediately after eating prevents the buildup of bacteria and plaque. Improper dental care can have serious consequences. Most people associate poor oral hygiene with cavities and root canals. However, improper cleaning can lead to gingivitis, tooth loss, and even heart disease. Plus, tooth loss can lead to issues with chewing and proper pronunciation.
Brush your teeth in a circular motion, making sure to cover the entire surface area. Before complaining, remember how big an elephant's tusk is. Covering the exposed area of your teeth should be a breeze in comparison. Floss in-between each tooth and be grateful that you don't have to reach between the 70 teeth of a crocodile.
Taking care of your teeth can seem like a chore, but it can save you lots of time and money in the long run. Cavities fillings and root canals are not only painful, but they can cost lots of money. True, dragonfish don't need to brush their teeth, but you do. Having an attractive smile is important in to your physical health and your social interactions. If you slack off today, you could regret it tomorrow.

Cute Nail Design Basics

One of the most fun fashion trends today are nail designs rather than just nail painting. For years one solid color was par for the course, whether on the fingernails and toenails. Now, there are so many different tools that can be used to develop designs, along with decals and appliques, that it is simple to keep your nails in coordination with not only your outfit and its color scheme, but also with the occasion you may be celebrating, whether it be a holiday or a personal special occasion. Your options are as boundless as the imagination, and you can stand out in your own unique arena by choosing nail designs that will simply amaze, and you can change them as often as you choose.
Some of the more popular designs now days represent sports teams and holidays. Many love to show the spirit of the occasion through not only color but by adding mascots or other forms of team loyalty representations. It is a lot of fun to have manicures and pedicures that match special dresses or other outfits being worn to special occasions such as Christmas parties or celebrations, St. Patrick's Day festivities, or other holidays in which the celebratory aspect involves color and design. The following are some of the tools of the finger/toenail trade, and some of the many, many ideas that can be used to make preparing your nails not only fun, but something you will love to do with or without occasion.
Nail Art Tutorial
While nail art design may appear to be very hard, anything is possible to perfect through practice, and in this case practice can be a lot of fun. By paying attention to tutorials you will realize the simplicity and flexibility available to you to become your own manicure and pedicurist, and you will find that you can cut way back on the money you may have been spending on this service.
Some Simple Ideas To Start:
1. Half-Moon Nails
These consist of leaving the half moon at the base of the nail bare, while designing and coordinating the colors above it. Colors that compliment each other are vital in giving the utmost effect, for examples, blues with blue tones or silver, or in contrast red with red tones or gold. These are simply color schemes, but leave the Half-moon bare.
2. Floral Nails
These can be designed by choosing the preferred base color. While you can apply decals that are floral, it is just as simple to add daisies or other similar flowers that can be completed on top of the base coat by means of simple dots and streaks. They are gorgeous attention grabbers.
3. Glitter Nails
Very simple and effective. By choosing a coordinating base-coat, you are able to choose a glitter topping that will accent the base coat and your clothing color scheme as well. You are free to choose whatever colors you like, which will allow you to showcase your style and personality.
While many designs now days may be done with air-brushed techniques, it is very important to remember that you are able to design your finger and toenails with quick originality and use it as an expression of self. As you gain more confidence in this area, feel free to begin to experiment with air guns, decals, and other original ideas at they fit the message you are trying to spread. You will find manicure and pedicure work done by yourself and to your expectations is far more pleasing and less expensive than to go to the salon.

Why Natural Oils Are Good For Your Hair?

Most people think of oil as an ingredient in cooking or something used for burns and other skin issues. However, the truth is natural oils can be used for so much more because of their properties and dynamic abilities when it comes to overall body care. Natural oils have been around since the dawn of man and used in various capacities from generation to generation but in recent times, as women have become more health and green living conscious, oil is beginning to get a lot more of the spotlight in the world of natural hair care.
There are a lot of reasons why natural oils are good for your hair but the most compelling are listed below: -
  • Natural oils are beneficial to every hair type - oily, dry, greasy, curly, kinky, straight, etc.
  • They provide moisturising and restorative properties to hair.
  • They make hair soft, pliable, manageable and easy to detangle.
  • They promote hair strength and growth.
  • They protect the hair and scalp from the elements.
  • They alleviate scalp conditions such as psoriasis, dandruff & dermatitis among others.
  • They have no additives, chemicals or other laboratory derived components.
  • For every hair problem, there is at least one natural oil that can be applied to alleviate the issue including alopecia; a problem, which plagues a good deal of women.
  • The chance of an allergic reaction to a natural oil is very slim.
As you can see, the benefits of oils on the hair abound. However, before running out to buy the first bottle of oil you come across, every oil is not for every hair type or problem. Whichever oils you end up with is dependent on what particular hair issue you are trying to address.
Another good thing about natural oils is you can mix and match to find the combo that's just right for your hair and any issues. And no matter what you do; you can't really have a hair catastrophe or a bad hair day. If you use an oil mix that turns out to be a bad idea, a good clarifying shampoo will get it out for you and you can go back to the drawing table to work on a new formula. Yes, having long, beautiful, healthy hair does involve a bit of strategising. Think of it as strategic fun!
With continued use of natural oils over time, expect to see an overall improvement in the health, look, feel and growth of your hair.

Advanced High Intensity Training Variables

In previous articles I explained in great detail the many different HIT or high intensity techniques that are used to increase intensity during bodybuilding training to dramatically increase muscle size and strength.

Variables such as forced reps, negatives, negative-accentuated, omni-contraction, rest-pause and many others were included in routines that reward the bodybuilder with much more rapid gains than traditional, lower intensity programs will.

One of the techniques, Rolling Static Partials, was utilized in several of the routines. Instead of rehashing all of the variables explained in my previous article this article is going to focus on my Rolling Static Partials variable, explaining it in more detail.

What makes this HIT variable so effective? Each of the other variables effect the muscles being trained in a unique way. Rolling Static Partials combine the benefits of all three.

Burn reps increase the intensity by quickly accelerating demands on the muscle by grinding out additional short reps after the trainee is no longer capable of completing more full reps.

Partials, or zone reps, focus on maximizing effort on different portions of an exercise and enable the lifter to hit muscular failure more than once during an exercise. There are endless variations on zones in an exercise so this variable allows one to train a muscle with what amounts to a new exercise every session if desired.

Super-X Contractions is a versatile technique, which like zone partials, offers nearly limitless variations. For example, holds can be done at the sticking point of an exercise or at the portion, or zone, where you are strongest. TOC, or time under contraction, can be 1-40 seconds in duration depending on the desired effect. This is one of the most, if not the most intense variable, making it one of the most productive for muscle-building and strength development.

Partial Reps

One of the most effective variables for overcoming and training beyond sticking points in an exercise, whether its one of the power lifts or a regular training exercise, is partial reps. This is due to its ability to isolate and train an individual portion of a movement and build its strength. This in turn enables heavier weights to be used and additional strength to be built.

Another reason this technique is so effective is the multiple times failure is achieved during a set. When an exercise is done in the traditional way failure is attained once. When partials are used each zone is taken to failure, increasing total set failure 3-6 times! Remember the success of a set, and training for that matter, is the amount of effort put forth. If sets aren't taken to failure then the results obtained will be substantially less than what is possible.

The variations within a partial set are virtually unlimited. A rep can be divided in half, thirds, quarters or any combination. A rep can be restricted to a very limited range and further divided into training zones. As you can see the opportunities are unlimited when it comes to this technique.

Repairing defects in free weight exercises

One of the problems with free weights is the imperfect leverage the barbell or dumbbell gives during an exercise. There are points in an exercise where the barbell gives ideal resistance but the angles vary greatly and resistance levels change dramatically throughout. Properly calibrated weight machines fix this problem by varying the resistance level as the leverage changes to maintain the proper workload for a given muscle. Partial reps allow us to remedy the leverage problem by changing the weight for each zone mimicking the action of high quality weight machines.

Lets break down a dumbbell curl and see how we can improve it by zone training. If you typically use 50 pounds in the dumbbell curl do 8 reps in the bottom third zone to failure. Immediately reduce the weight to 40 lbs and do as many reps to failure as you can in the middle third. Reduce the weight further to 30 lbs and do as many reps as you can do in the upper zone.

As you can see, we have altered the weight in a similar way that a weight machine does to provide an even resistance level throughout the curl, increasing its effectiveness.

This principle can be used in any free weight exercise where there are mechanical disadvantages.

Rolling Static Partials are performed in the following way:

Bench Press- 12 reps

Press the bar up 1/3rd of the way and hold for 10 seconds before pressing the bar to mid-point. Do a series of short 2-4 inch fast pulsing reps before doing 4 reps in the top zone of the lift. Continue doing random holds, burn reps and partial reps until you have completed a total of 12 reps.

This variable can be used with any exercise to break through sticking points and allow heavier weights to be used during the traditional performance of an exercise.

Give this a try and you will surely build more muscle and strength faster than before.

Ten Steps to a Great UV Tan

When you're tanned you feel more confident, you look healthier and tend to appear slimmer as well. Who doesn't want to feel confident and look great? Moreover, everyone wants to get into their bikini that first hot day without looking white as snow. You like to prepare your skin before exposing it to the sun. An airbrush tan may be beautiful but no UV means it doesn't help protect the skin when exposed to the sun's rays which makes it prone to burning. To get a great UV based tan just stick to the following ten steps.
1. Some prescription medications can stop you from developing a tan while others make you burn easier. You can check this by referring to your tanning salon's photosensitizing medication chart or ask a doctor or health professional if unsure.
2. Always use a good tanning lotion to help sustain your tan for longer as well as help the skin to get a deeper, darker color. Lotions are best applied a good while before your tanning session.
3. Always use an after tan lotion this helps the skin to regenerate and stay hydrated. After tan is best applied twice daily for healthy, happy skin.
4. There's no truth in burning first to create a great tan afterwards. When the skin burns it needs to heal first before it can tan again. Taking it slow, is key to the tanning process.
5. For a good base tan you should tan once every 24 to 48 hours. Give the skin a rest if it's itchy or feels dry and has a pinkish color.
6. Once the base tan has been established you can maintain your tan with 2 to 3 sessions a week.
7. Always wear goggles when tanning. UV exposure can cause major eye problems later in life. And no, a towel doesn't count as eye protection.
8. When aiming for an overall tan make sure to initially cover the sensitive areas of the body with a towel and build up the UV exposure of these parts slowly over a period of sessions.
9. To avoid getting an uneven tan and crease lines make sure to re-position arms and legs throughout your session.
10. Some make-up, deodorants and perfumes can have a bad reaction with skin when exposed to UV so don't apply them before your tanning session but wait until after.
Everyone is different so common sense is the approach to take here. Enjoy your tanning sessions and enjoy your tan!

Why All Fitness Enthusiasts Should Use Himalayan Salt

Himalayan Salt naturally contains an incredible selection of 84 different minerals and trace elements essential to the human body. Anyone and everyone, but particularly those involved in bodybuilding and fitness at any level, as well as all who seek healthier living, would benefit tremendously by making the switch to 100% natural Himalayan Salt.
Traditional Table Salt
Traditional table salt that one would typically find in supermarkets is composed of roughly 97% sodium chloride. The other 3% consists of various chemicals designed to prevent caking (clumping together) and improve the flow of the salt when poured or shaken. The salt is then bleached and processed under extreme heat which changes the chemical structure of the salt and destroys the essential trace minerals that exist in the salt's natural, raw state. And therein lies the problem! The human body needs salt because of its rich mineral content, which has now been destroyed and removed as a result of all of the chemical processing. As if that weren't bad enough, many commercial salt processors then treat the salt with hazardous substances like aluminum hydroxide, which is used to prevent the buildup of moisture.
All this unnecessary processing takes away the positive benefits and "life energy" of salt for the human body and leaves the consumer with an un-natural mixture of sodium chloride and chemical additives that is extremely difficult for the human body to break down and metabolize. The body must sacrifice tremendous amounts of energy and cellular water in order to neutralize the damaging effects of the salt. The inability of the body to effectively neutralize these toxic chemicals and substances can result in numerous conditions such as cellulite buildup in undesirable areas, arthritis, gout, kidney and gall bladder stones, and elevated blood pressure.
Sea Salt
As a result of all this, many consumers have turned to other types of salt like "sea salt" for their everyday salt consumption. While it is true that sea salts usually have a few additional minerals not found in regular table salt, it is also sadly the reality that far too many of our oceans and lakes are polluted with toxic poisons like mercury, PCBs, and dioxin. In addition, over 85% of all sea salt processors are using refining processes similar to those outlined above in their production of the salt that they sell to consumers. As a result, sea salt isn't much better health-wise than traditional table salt.
Himalayan Salt
Himalayan Salt contains 84 minerals and trace elements essential to the human body, and is not degraded in any way through chemical processing. It is theorized that Himalayan Salt does not elevate blood pressure the way regular salt can, and has the ability to regulate fluid balance and naturally stabilize blood pressure.
Himalayan Crystal Salt has an endless supply of positive health benefits, including increasing the absorption of food, promoting vascular health, boosting energy, preventing muscle cramps, promoting bone strength, enhancing immune system function, and reducing excess acidity/balancing pH in the body's cells. As many researchers know, that last point is extremely important because most diseases and illnesses thrive in an acidic state and cease to exist in an alkaline state!
All of these benefits make Himalayan Salt the ideal choice for bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts, as well as anyone looking to improve their overall health and wellness!
The human body needs an abundant supply of minerals in order to function at optimal levels, and Himalayan Salt is the perfect way to naturally feed your body what it needs to perform at its peak!

Diet Tips for Post Workout Drinking

Being in college, it is natural for people to party and drink socially, but there presents the infamous question, "How bad is drinking alcohol after a workout?" Will going out on the weekends have bad effects on your fitness efforts? Well, the consequences may not be as bad you might think there are two things you need to keep in mind, alcohols effects on both muscle recovery and body composition.
1. Make sure you are taking in protein once you finish a workout. There was an experiment focusing on post workout drinking that had the athletes get drunk after an intense workout session and as a result, their protein synthesis when down almost 40%. These athletes were then set up for another trial, where they were given a whey protein shake before they started drinking, and the amino acids in the whey were able to reduce the effects of the alcohol to almost 20%. Even though this may still seem like a lot, drinking this heavily once a week is not a big deal. Also if you did something that lowered protein synthesis three times a week, it still would not be that detrimental to you. Also, the athletes in the study were taking in around 8 vodka shots in a short amount of time, obviously if you drink less, the effects on protein synthesis will be less. So next time you plan to go out with your friends post working out, have some chocolate milk or better yet, have a protein shake at the ready, and you will not have to worry about ruining your hard work.
2. Another thing you are going to need to watch is the calories of whatever you are drinking. If you are trying to lose weight, or even maintain it, calories always matter! Try to make it your aim while working out to have 5 drinks a week, and change it from there depending how your weight loss is coming along. If you drink this much a week, your body will benefit by increasing your HDL cholesterol, but anymore and the extra calories start to outweigh the benefits toward your HDL cholesterol. Keep in mind as well that all drinks are different in the amount of calories you take in. Having drinks with sodas and juices as mixers can end with you overloading on calories and end with a bad hangover from all the sugar. Try choosing simple drinks like vodka and club soda where you can still party and minimize the amount of calories you take in.

How to Lose Weight in a Month - Real World Tips and Tricks

It's awkward: it seems like you can put pounds onto your weight almost overnight but when you come to lose those pounds again it's never as fast. Weight loss seems tilted in favour of gaining weight much more than losing it.
One of the reasons for that is historic. Until very recently, we never had access to a constant supply of food at almost every turning. So we adapted to conserve any excess calories and store them as fat in case our next meal was nowhere to be found.
That survival instinct has turned against us!
So is there anything you can do to lose weight in a month?
Which is normally about the length of time we step on the scales and decide that something has to be done before a holiday or other occasion.
The first thing to do is read the labels for everything you normally eat.
The smaller the print size and the less contrast there is between the print colour and the background colour, the more important this is.
Because manufacturers know that the harder they make it for us to read precisely what they've put in their product the less likely we are to bother to read it.
During this often scary exercise, you're looking for a few things.
Sugar is one of the main culprits in weight gain.
And, again, manufacturers know that (deep down) we know that.
Which means they use lots of different terms for it: high fructose corn syrup, fructose, glucose, sucrose and many other names. Wikipedia has a comprehensive list if you want to delve into this further but you can get a good idea from the nutrition part of the label - it will normally show carbohydrates and also how much of those carbs is made up from sugar.
You'll probably be shocked by how much sugar is lurking in all sorts of supposedly healthy products such as fruit juice and smoothies. And also in products that are promoted as low fat.
The more ruthless you can be at cutting down the amount of sugar you consume, the easier the task of losing weight becomes.
Next up, you need to use a food diary.
The only person who sees this is likely to be you. So you need to be completely honest with yourself about what you're eating.
That includes the one or two or three sweets you take from the bowl at reception, the extra portion of orange juice, etc.
Far and away the simplest way to lose weight is the one that's almost a throw away line in the diet books: don't eat as much!
Yes, I said it.
Forget the expensive answers.
Just monitor what you eat and stop before you eat several times the recommended daily amount of calories!
The other "trick" to losing weight in a month is increasing the amount of water you consume.
That's plain water.
Not water that's been transformed into coffee or tea or anything else that isn't plain H2O.
Make it your mission to drink at least 8 glasses of water each and every day. More if possible.
This will help reduce your hunger as your stomach will be full from the water.
It will also help flush out all sorts of toxins from your body that you never knew were there.

How to Stay Healthy Over Spring Break

Spring break is just around the corner for individuals across the country. This may mean vacationing or simply enjoying some downtime in your hometown. During your break, you want to relax and enjoy yourself. Sometimes this can include some unhealthy behavior; especially for those looking to lose weight. From extra calories to lazy days relaxing by the pool, spring break can make it increasingly more difficult to stick with your weight loss plan. If you are planning a vacation or a stay-cation, think ahead. There are ways to stay healthy during spring break.
1. Never engage in yo-yo dieting thinking this is a way to stay healthy during spring break. Before a vacation or getaway, it is common to be slightly more conscious over the amount of food you are consuming. This especially holds true when beach attire is involved. Being especially conscious of the food you eat is fine, but you should avoid any form of crash or yo-yo dieting. This can reduce your energy levels and you will be much more likely to overindulge while on vacation. Another thing to remember about crash diets is the second you stop the diet, the pounds will creep back very quickly as your metabolism works to adjust itself.
2. Avoid giving yourself a free pass on calories while on vacation; this can help you to stay healthy during spring break. As much as you don't want them to count, calories still count while you are on vacation. While a burger and fries may sound like the perfect spring break meal, try to avoid the temptation. Do your body a favor by nourishing it with foods that are rich in vitamins and will give you plenty of energy to enjoy your vacation.
3. Don't skip your workout just because you are on vacation. Pack your sneakers, a pair of shorts and a workout top. Remember to stay healthy during spring break, you cannot just lounge by the pool all day. Instead of just lounging swim some laps in the pool, go for a run on the boardwalk or enjoy a walk on the beach. You can still workout while enjoying the scenery that spring break has to offer.
4. Never skip a meal to stay healthy during spring break. Skipping meals will only make you more hungry and more likely to overindulge. Be sure to enjoy the local cuisine in moderation and make sure you are not hungry -- hunger can put in you in bad mood.
Try to avoid the late night snacking. With round-the-clock room service or a late night on the boardwalk, snacking can be tempting. It's okay to treat yourself to something little, but don't use this opportunity to have an entire late night meal.

Laser Skin Care Treatments Pros And Cons

Acne scars, warts, pigmentation, post-surgical marks and lesions are skin care challenges that find rescue in non-invasive methods. These techniques revive and rejuvenate skin textures via prescription medications, extraction technology, chemical peels and laser therapy.
While each has its own merits, the popularity of laser therapy for skin resurfacing also questions its feasibility.
Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (Laser)
Certain layers of the skin are exposed to a light beam within a prescribed wavelength that is absorbed by the target area for phased healing.
Ablative and Non-Ablative Techniques: Controlled light pulses are directed over the skin surface for either ablative or non-ablative procedures.
Non-ablative therapy concentrates only on the lower skin layers (dermis). This treatment is effective on brown spots and pigmentation which can eliminate or reduce redness caused due to broken capillaries. It also improves fine lines and minor wrinkles. Repeated non-ablative therapy can also help collagen restoration.
Swelling, short-term bruising that could minimize in a few days, temporary darkening of treated skin areas, redness and other skin damages akin to sunburns may be caused with non-ablative techniques. However, these side effects are temporary and skin often gets restored to the desired texture.
Ablative laser therapy targets both the dermis and the epidermis (outer skin layer) by damaging the skin's surface. This resurfacing method is ideal for reducing deep or surface wrinkles and also treats skin pigmentation. This therapy can reverse the impact of sun damage by reviving a new healthier skin.
Be cautious of bleeding, swelling, scabbing and other forms of long term irritation and scarring with post-ablative therapy.
Acne Treatment :Laser therapy has been effective for treating acne in the recent past but, care must be taken to undergo this treatment under trained professionals.
Facial Surgeries:For extreme conditions of deep wrinkles, sun damage, spots and scars, laser facial surgery is effective. Bruising, dryness and swelling which normally subsides within days are some common side effects. Post-operative infections and discolouration of skin are the other problems with laser surgeries.
Vascular and pigmented lesions, varicose veins, spider veins, hair removal and removal of tattoo are some of the other conditions that are healed with laser skin treatments. Stained skin following nasal piercing or iron injections also often react well to laser treatments.
Precautions and Dangers:For treatment of lesions it is advisable to space out the treatments for six weeks or more to enable the body to rid off dispersed pigments and restore true skin tone.
It is possible to remove tattoos that are coloured red; while green, yellow and orange colours are difficult to remove. White tattoos usually do not respond to laser treatments.
Other side effects are uneven skin tone in dark skinned individuals with high melanin pigmentation. Laser surfacing can cause skin irritation leading to dermatitis and acne-like conditions.
Therapy can cause reactivation of herpes virus in individuals suffering from cold sores. Skin oversensitivity is a common problem that can be alleviated by minimal exposure to the sun for about a year post-treatment. Always consult a skin specialist for post-operative care best suited to your skin conditions.

Dementia Home Care

Dementia is a progressive loss of cognitive function and short term memory. There are many causes of dementia, Alzheimer's being just one of them. Some dementia can be brought on by improper management of medications. Sometimes, alcohol abuse can bring on sudden symptoms of dementia. Some dementia is treatable and reversible while other form are not. Most seniors with dementia will require a full-time caregiver.
Many unhealthy emotions accompany the onset and development of dementia: anxiety, depression, irrational fears that lead to insulation and withdrawal. Things a person is used to doing as a regular routine become difficult and challenging. Hiring a Home Care agency that is nursing supervised and have caregivers trained in the care of dementia and Alzheimer's can help you overcome these challenges.
In-home caregivers can provide service from a few hours a week to full time live-in care. Even a few hours a week of respite care can make a huge difference in the life of a caregiver trying to provide support. The advantage of going through an agency is that the caregivers will have been given a complete background check and probably drug tested as well. Comprehensive insurance, bonding and workman's comp coverage protects you from anything that can go wrong, even if the caregiver is driving your car. A good agency will also do a full nursing assessment, develop a plan of care with you, and do a safety assessment of your home.
According to the Alzheimer's association, these are the things to ask potential in-home care providers:
  • Are you trained in CPR and First Aid?
  • Do you have experience working with dementia?
  • Are you trained in dementia care?
  • Are you with an insured, bonded, accredited agency?
  • Are you able to provide references?
  • What is your back up plan in case a caregiver gets sick, or fails to show?
There are a wide range of services an in-home care agency can provide including: personal care, companion care, respite services, light housekeeping, homemaker services, meal preparation, transportation for errands/groceries/Doctors visits...
The cost of these services can vary widely, but according to a study by Met Life, the median cost is about $22/hour for a qualified agency caregiver.
There may come a time when staying at home is no longer an option. In severe dementia cases, the loss of memory, emotional outbursts, and the threat of the patient running away and getting lost can become so great that it becomes necessary to consider moving to a facility that specializes in dementia care.

Food + Relationships

Does your eating or weight concerns effect your relationships? One week ago a relationship expert contacted me regarding the work I am doing and I began thinking of the correlation between food & relationships, and the connection in my life.
When I was overly invested in my need to change my body, lose weight, control my food I was also struggling in relationships. I used to use food to mask the feelings I was experiencing. I wasn't able to express myself easily, I kept most of my needs and desires to myself, with food anesthetizing me, it was easier to do. I sunk deeper into myself, offering less and less of my true self to relationships because I was too afraid to admit I had needs, desires or thoughts that may be in conflict with the person or persons I was interacting with. So very few if anyone new my true needs, diligently I buried them within myself so I wouldn't have to handle uncomfortable situations. Food was what I used to keep my life running "smoothly" free of conflict and difficult encounters. But that wasn't really true because I was in turmoil inside which I didn't share with anyone else. My goal was to portray everything as being FINE! And that was what it was, a portrayal, masking the truth. The more I hid from others the deeper my internal withholding.
My experience of food + relationships, was that my main relationship was with food. I nurtured it, I protected it, I confided in it, I took comfort in it, I depended on it, I felt safe in it, I felt cared for by it.
So when I hear my clients say I don't know why I can't get this food thing, I know it is "just food" I get it, because I know it is so much more then that! Food is intended to nourish our body, our cells our tissues. For someone who has used food all of their life food takes on a very different intention, it is no longer about nourishment it is about comfort, it becomes a drug, taking off the edge, where feelings are a bit too raw, uncomfortable, close to the surface. Mom's know it with babies, or kids, food is frequently used as a distracter from what is making their child upset, sad, lonely, they know if they offer a treat the child can change their focus. Too many years of that practice creates a numbing of feelings and a way of turning to food to handle life and a way to avoid being authentic in relationships, with one self and then other.s
I know and believe the way to change is the way to personal freedom, from Food and to claiming ones whole self you are needed in the world the time is, NOW, as Hillel says.

The Importance of After Sun Care

Everybody loves to spend time in the sun during the warm summer days. Getting tanned is something that most people look forward to all winter and when the warm temperatures finally arrive, it is a great pleasure to stay on a sunny beach for hours in a row and get that gorgeous color that everyone dreams of. However, the UV emissions are getting more and more intense every year and doctors advise people to stay away from direct sunlight from midday to midafternoon. In addition, even if you have stayed in the sun when it is recommended and you have worn the proper protection cream, after sun care is just as important. Very few people remember to put on an after sun lotion when they come home from the beach even though, they may have it in their bags. This is because they do not understand exactly the purpose of these lotions.
The main benefit brought by after sun lotions is rehydration of their skin. No matter what protection you wear on the beach, your body and skin will still be dehydrated afterwards, which is why it is very important to apply something that will nourish your skin and give it a healthy look. When the skin is not properly hydrated after sun exposure, dryness and irritations can appear and you will feel much more uncomfortable. This is why applying after sun care on your skin is more important than ever. In addition, people who use acne skin care will need to take extra safety measures, because their skin is much more sensitive to light exposure. There are many professional products on the market that can be used to protect acne prone skin from the powerful light of the summer sun and allow people to enjoy its warmth without any risk.
Another benefit brought by after sun lotions that many people forget about is the cooling of their skin. Everyone knows that feeling when you just can't get cool enough, even though you have just taken a shower. These lotions are specially designed to help the skin cool off. In addition, because your skin will be properly hydrated, it is much less likely to peel off and thus you will be able to enjoy your nice tan for a longer period of time.
All in all, when it comes to skin care, applying sun protection is not the only thing that people need to do. After sun care plays just as an important role as everything else and people who take care of themselves, will not have to deal with any side effects of sun exposure. Even if you don't have any sunburns, your skin is still dehydrated and a high quality after sun lotion will do wonders. There are even acne skin care products that go hand in hand with sun products, so if your skin is prone to this condition, make sure you ask your doctor to recommend you something professional. Considering the mount of harmful UV radiation that we are exposed to every summer, it is important not to skip any step to properly protect our skin.
