Treat Your Cracked Heels With Rice Vinegar

Natural treatments are often cited as the best way to maintain health and vitality, but they are also renowned remedies for treating the every-day ailments that plague us.
Vinegar is a great example. Although it is mainly used in cooking, vinegar was historically used for medicinal purposes due to its acidic chemical structure. This 'mild acidity' comes from the fermentation process, which results in the ethanol component being rendered into an acetic acid.
Yet vinegar has a lot of uses outside it's abilities to poach an egg. It can be used to get rid of the dry and cracked skin on your heels. Rice vinegar contains a higher amount of the vinegar constituent, but is less acidic than it's commercial counterparts (this is most likely due to the fact that a higher acidic content means a longer fermentation process, and thus greater shelf-life) Rice vinegar's chemistry can change the skin's PH value and soften skin cutin layer, which is prone to cracking and irritation when dry.
Rice vinegar is also anti-bacterial making it the ideal candidate for a pedicure soak because it will destroy any bacteria and remove any nail fungus. The best results are achieved when 1 part rice vinegar is mixed with 1 part water, and the feet are allowed to soak for half an hour. This will give the vinegar adequate time to eliminate any nail fungus, kill off any bacteria on your feel and soften the cracked layer of skin on your heels.
Alternatively, mix a scrub and apply using a course sponge or pumice device by adding one tablespoon of honey and one tablespoon or more of coarse salt to a tablespoon of rice vinegar. You can also ad a few drops of olive oil to this mixture. The resultant paste can then be scrubbed directly onto the cracked area of the heel.
The vinegar will help to dissolve the thickened layers of the dead skin while the salt will gently remove the top layer of the dead skin due to its abrasive composition. The honey acts as a sort of natural moisturizer to keep your feet soft and feeling hydrated. After a scrub, it is advisable to apply some foot cream, and keep your feet away from the open air for an hour or so, or until the cream sinks in. (socks are fine)
If you find you cannot acquire any rice vinegar, apple cider vinegar works just as well, and will serve you, and your cracked feet well.
These sorts of home-remedy pedicure treatments are becoming increasingly popular as people feel the economic pinch more and more, and it is precisely these sorts of low-cost beauty secrets (rice vinegar is very cheap) that can ensure you still get the health benefits you desire without the inflated price tag.
