Natural Ways to Get Rid of Dark Circles Under the Eyes



Dark circles under the eyes appear because of several reasons. Skin experts say that in some cases, one's genetic makeup may be to blame. And in some instances, these circles are the skin's reaction to overexposure to the sun. Whatever the cause is, these skin discolorations don't do us any good. They make us look older than our age, and they are certainly not flattering at all.
So how do you get rid of these ugly circles? There are two general ways to solve your problem: to rely on clinical procedures with the help of a dermatologist, or to go natural and opt for homemade remedies. The latter choice is, of course, a lot better because of at least three reasons. For one, it is safe. Second, it is cheap. Last, it's easy to do.
Here are some natural ways to get rid of dark circles under the eyes
1. Try cucumber, potato, and tea bag therapy.
It's been said that even Cleopatra used cucumbers as part of her beauty regimen. Put a slice of cucumber on your eyes, and leave them there for about 20 minutes. Doing this is effective not only in reducing dark circles and eye bags, but also the tired look in your eyes.
If you don't have cucumber in your fridge, don't fret because there are other alternatives. You can use potatoes or a tea bag instead.
2. Apply cold compress.
If you don't have any of the above-stated vegetables, you can try using a frozen spoon. Put a spoon in your fridge. Make sure that it's really cold, so leave it in the freezer for about 15 minutes. When ready, put the spoon on the dark circles. Allow the spoon to lose its "coldness." You can do this only once per day.
3. Get enough sleep.
Many people get dark circles because they don't get enough sleep. If you're one of these people, try your best to complete at least 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep everyday.
4. Eat plenty of food items that contain Vitamin K.
Experts say that if you don't get enough Vitamin K, you're likely to get dark circles under your eyes. So pile your plate with broccoli, asparagus, spinach, cabbage, and other Vitamin K-rich foods.
5. Stay away from the sun.
While it's true that the morning sun is a great source of Vitamin D, make sure you avoid overexposure at all times. It's not a big secret that the sun's rays encourage melanin production, so when you go to the beach or any sunny places, wear shades for protection.
