Men Get Fit - Why the Battle of the Bulge Favors the Boys



Guess what? Life is not always fair. Now they say that in the Battle of the Sexes, all things are equal. As long as we can all agree that we are all equal but not the same, everything will be fine. We know there are a number of biological differences, including some that are not as obvious as others. In the Battle of the Bulge, the edge, however slight, goes to men for a number of reasons.
But, before we get ahead of ourselves, that does not mean that men rarely have a weight problem. That is simply not true. There are many men who do have a weight issue, many who need a free diet. Men don't always like to follow diet plans, especially the strict ones that cut their meat consumption or the ones that may make them follow too many rules. They still need to follow some kind of plan though.
The sugar free diet men might try first is usually the shortest lived of the bunch. Most men have a sweet tooth and will go into sugar withdrawals if you take the sweet stuff away from them. This kind of strict diet plan rarely works and leaves you thinking about the cakes, cookies and pies that you are just no longer allowed to have. But, men tend to have a faster metabolism than women, so a little bit of sugar will burn off faster and not be stored as fat quite as easily. Chalk that one up for the boys.
Next, the fat free diet men will choose as their next option. Living fat free is more difficult than it sounds simply because the stuff is hidden in so many foods. Even that can of soup that is supposed to be so healthy for you may have fat hidden in it- especially if there is any kind of meat or noodles in it. You know, the kind of stuff that men like to actually eat!
A less frequent choice, the meat free diet men find to be almost unbearable. They would rather keep the "pudge" than give up the steak or the burgers and never mind that all protein diet that people touted a few years ago. That was discovered to be not only unwise but nutritionally unsound as well. We are just starting to see the long term effects of that diet plan with people's heart disease and cholesterol levels through the roof, largely in part because they followed this plan.
Men need to take in more calories than women do because they tend to have bigger bodies and gain muscle more easily. That is a biological fact boys, so there is no need to strut around and beat your chest like an ape. The diets that they choose, no matter which it is, works faster because they burn calories faster. Again, it is biology not superiority. Women can reason faster because the two sides of their brain has a bigger connection, so there.
