Tips For Recuperation - Post Party-time

Well Christmas has passed.
However, that doesn't mean that the festivities have stopped - in fact, I suspect that most people regard the days between 24 December and 3 January as 'designated days of festivity.'
These days are filled with the excitement of sharing with family and friends and more often than not include a round of parties complete with libation, victuals and jocularity.
In case you over-indulged in one, or all of the following; food, caffeine, alcohol, sugar, or chocolate - be prepared for a come down or slight withdrawals - including; headache, indigestion, lassitude, lower back pain, general malaise or depression .
So - if you're feeling a little jaded, as we are, here are a few tips to get you ready for the New Year.
- Stay at home for a couple of days and be still.
- Turn off the cell phone.
- Stay away from the computer.
- Read
- Listen to fine music.
Get rid of the last bits of naughty from around the house.
- Stock the shelves with fresh fruit, dried fruit and honey to assist breaking the refined sugar/chocolate habit.
- Replace the alcohol and caffeine jag with fresh juices or herbal teas.
Physical rest
- The afternoon nap (the nooner) rebuilds flagging energy every time.
- Push away from your work station - close your eyes and breathe deeply for a few minutes each hour.
- Sleep well - early to bed and early to rise.
Natural Remedies
Use hydrotherapy for headaches, especially if you are coming off caffeine, or alcohol. Depression or malaise will also be lessened using water therapy.
- Fill up a tub with cold water.
- Stand in the water up to your knees if possible and mark time.
- This draws the circulation away from the head and toward the lower extremities easing head pain both mentally and physically.
- Resting in a dark quiet place - practicing rhythmic and diaphragmatic breathing will bring you back to a pain free state.
- Sore muscles, backs, necks and other strained parts of the body love to be soothed in a hot bath followed by a cool tepid shower and then into bed.
- Work toward the 'No Breakfast Plan' - two meals per day will allow your body to metabolize waste matter more efficiently. Read more about the no breakfast plan at: http://www.thehealtheducator.com.au
Engage in some physical exercise - as you recuperate and feel your natural energies returning - get out and get moving.
- Visit the beach, forest or park and breathe highly oxygenated air for a natural high.
Benefits
- Excess weight will be quickly lost when you to a return to the natural foods diet.
Take time for yourself - you are all you have.
We wish you all the very best for 2009 and look forward to your companionship and friendship as you build health and happiness in yourself and your family.
