Are Fitness Boot Camps Better For Weight Loss?
Are they more effective than traditional exercise for losing weight and burning fat?
The answer is YES! But let's take a look at a few reasons why.
1. The H.I.I.T principle. If you're not familiar with the high intensity interval training then you're missing out. This technique has been proven to burn more fat and calories during your workout and after your workout. By raising your heart rate up and then bringing it back down you are applying one of the most effective methods for burning fat. Boot camps use H.I.I.T training by fusing cardio and resistance training together.
2. Motivation. Have you ever felt like you needed a friend to workout with to push you and give you a little motivation? Maybe you had a workout partner and then they left you high and dry so you quit too. In a boot camp you have tons of workout partners, sometimes as many as 50 or more and the energy and excitement blows away the traditional boring workouts. It's so much easier to push yourself if the person next to you is doing the same exercise without giving up. With a little friendly competition you will get better results from the extra push.
3. Muscles Burn Fat! I have known people who have done a triathlon and during their training gained a bunch of fat. How does that happen? It is actually common when you are over dosing on cardio and not doing any resistance training. You start losing muscle, you're metabolism slows down, and you start gaining body fat because you're not burning as many calories as you used to. It is important to train your muscles with resistance so they don't disappear but become visible instead. This is what is commonly known as "Tone".
4. Compound or Total Body Movements Kill Fat! Most but not all traditional workouts focus on just one or two muscles at a time and therefore do not burn as many calories. In a boot camp workout there is an emphasis on compound or total body movements that burn a ton more calories and fat. Plus, these movements recruit many muscle groups at the same time which is how your body works to begin with. When you pick up a bag of groceries off the floor you use your legs, hips, glutes, back, arms, and core. Speaking of core, when you train in a boot camp almost ever exercise trains your core and will help you get a firm flat stomach with a strong back.
5. It's Really Fun! One of the reasons most people don't exercise or stick with a fitness program is because of boredom. Joining a fitness boot camp will completely change the way you feel about fitness. Boot camps offer variety, energy, excitement, motivation, unique exercises, and a group of like-minded people who are there for the same reasons you are. If you have ever been in one of my boot camps you know exactly what I'm talking about, it may be challenging, you will sweat a lot so leave the make-up at home, you may get a little sore but you will never be bored and you WILL get results.
This list is not exhaustive by any means but it sums it up well. If you want to lose weight and are debating joining a boot camp then go for it. I do have to warn you though boot camps are not for everyone. If you're super lazy, complain a lot, don't have a winning attitude or just want to go through the motions then this is not for you.
But, if you are serious about results then without question boot camps will vaporize body fat faster than any other method.
