Healthy Recipes for A Healthier You

It is tough being the caretaker of a family. Not only do you have to worry about how every member of the household is going about their life, you also have to worry about the fact that if your family is weak, they may give in to the trifles of life. Good nutrition is a challenge these days. The kids do not want to eat any vegetable which they are not familiar with. The man of the house wants something new every day. Managing all this along with your job or business is an ordeal in itself.

There must be days when you would be getting frustrated about what to serve. Although vegetables are healthy, the method of your cooking is not so much healthy. Green beans are often cooked in bacon grease or have bacon pieces. The peas and potatoes are thickly lined with white sauce and butter. If all these mouth watering additions are removed, there is nothing left except poor old healthy vegetables. Somewhere between all that excessive cooking and greasing, their nutritional value gets lost as well.

However, if you are tired of getting excuses everyday from your family for eating outside, you might want to try these fresh recipes out here. All you need is a can of fresh or frozen vegetables. Even the leftovers from the last night which you packed away in the fridge will do just perfect.
Here are some awesome ways to give your family the best nutrition without the oil and the fat:
  • Italian style green beans
You will need: green beans and chopped Italian tomatoes
Rinse and drain green beans as per requirement. Then, stir one can of chopped tomatoes. Heat these thoroughly and then serve. Your kids will love it for a change. This seems so easy. It in fact is! Go ahead and experiment with other additions too. With your creativity, you can make the plain old green beans appealing and tasty. Try replacing the traditionally made calorie filled green bean casserole.
  • Veggie delights
You will need: green beans, olive oil, basil leaves, whole grain bread, butter, pimento, almonds, onion, cheese and sour cream.

Rinse and drain the green beans as per the requirement again. Heat the skillet with a little olive oil. You can season the oil as per your taste. You can opt for basil leaves, dill or any other preferred herb.
Now, trim the side crusts from bread slices and butter them lightly. Push the centre of the bread slices gently inside a muffle tin. This forms a pocket with the four corners jutting out. Slightly toast till golden brown in the oven. Now, scoop a spoonful of warmed green beans. Top this with pimento, onions, almonds and sprinkle grated cheese or sour cream. These will be yummy veggie delights which your family is definitely going to enjoy.
Try to opt for low sodium and low sugar items in your meals. Stock them up around the festive seasons. These can be used for flavouring the vegetables. Bravely experiment with the vegetables around. Create a mealtime which is special so that your family enjoys the bounty God has created.
