Should You Use a Carb Block?

One of the most popular diet products on the market right now is what is known as a carb block. This is a type of pill that blocks the carbohydrates from being turned into energy that is then stored as fat. This is an ideal diet pill for almost all people, and as long as you choose a pill that is made from natural ingredients, then you will find that it is an effective way to lose the weight you need to lose.
A carb block works just like a fat blocker pill does, except that it works on carbohydrates. Instead of allowing your body to process all the carbs that you eat, it blocks some of those foods and calories from being turned into energy, and that means that they will never be turned into fat. It is almost like eating just a portion of your normal meal in terms of calorie control.
Most people find that when they are taking a carb block, they do not need to change their diet at all, and for this reason alone, it is one of the most popular diet pills around. Imagine being able to lose weight quickly and not changing what you eat!
Again, it is important to remember that you should not take any type of carbohydrate blocker that is made from anything but natural products, and you should also be wary of blockers that have ephedrine in them. Although ephedrine can certainly help in weight loss, it will make you jittery and is not good for people who have other health issues.
You should find that a carbohydrate-blocking pill is the easiest way for you to lose a few pounds, or more, without really having to do anything. Of course, if you eat fewer calories and exercise more, the drug will work all that much faster.

Aerobic Activities For Fat Loss

It has been said that aerobic or cardio activity is the ultimate fat loss secret. It makes sense because it is better to burn the fat than to starve it. There are many activities that can be considered aerobic. However, there are requisites to it if we want to make it a viable fat loss strategy. Walking, jogging or running and the use of gym equipment such as the treadmill and elliptical machines rank high among the top aerobic activities. Intensity and duration are important when doing aerobic activities to lose fat. The mentioned exercises all allow you to increase or decrease intensity according to fitness levels and fat loss goals. Aerobic activities need to be prolonged for fat to be burned. Twenty to thirty minutes is acceptable but forty minutes to under an hour gives you maximum fat loss and health benefits.
Walking is a basic and an ideal way to start your fat loss program. It is a natural activity and can adjust to your fitness levels. Whether you have been sedentary or just beginning the journey to fat loss, walking is an exercise activity you can very well accomplish. To make walking a viable fat loss exercise, you have to do it briskly for thirty minutes up to an hour. Strolling does not count. Window shopping is also out of the list. Fast paced, brisk walking is the only kind that will make you lose fat.
Running or jogging is one of the best cardiovascular workouts. Its fat burning potential is extremely high, you can do it outdoors and you can increase or decrease its intensity. Running however is not for everyone. Overdoing it can lead to injuries. Running is not ideal if you're just starting off because it can be too intense. True, intensity is important if you want to lose fat, but when you're just starting, a less intense exercise is the more sensible option. For people whose goal is to become muscular, running should not be your cardio of choice. To stress the point, just observe the physique of long distance runners.
Gym equipment like the treadmill, stationary bikes, elliptical machines, rowing machines and stair climbers are superb fat burners. These machines can be adjusted to suit one's fitness levels. Almost all of these equipments have high fat burning potential and all caters to every exerciser from the beginner to the advanced gym rat. Rowing and cross country ski machines have very high fat burning potential because they work the entire body.
Cardio or aerobic exercises for fat loss can be done in the gym or outdoors. To ensure that you are losing fat, you have to do it for a prolonged period of time; twenty to thirty minutes up to one hour, at a high intensity. The results you get mirrors the effort you put into your cardio workouts.

Dehydration and Heat Illness

What you do before you workout is as important as what you do when you get started. Before you workout set the tone to ensure you have a healthy workout.
This article will focus strictly on hydration.
The way to set the tone is to make sure you are properly hydrated. Think about how important that statement is. Each year we hear about or see on television the tragedy of student athletes and pros dying from dehydration while working out in hot temperatures. Deaths that could be avoided.
Drink water before a workout. Chugging it down just before you begin wont produce the results you want. It is best to drink water through out the day around 16 to 20 ounces a few hours before you begin.
In a study in the April 2010 Journal of Athletic Training, runners who started a 12-K race dehydrated on an 80-degree day finished about two and a half minutes slower compared to when they ran it hydrated. If you are dehydrated during your workouts you reduce your body's ability to transfer heat, while making your heat work harder, making it difficult for your body to meet aerobic demands.
Cold Drinks
Whether your workout is strictly running or a combination of exercises you want to consume cold drinks prior to your workout. Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise published the results of a 2008 study. What they learned was cyclists who drank cold beverages before and during their workout exercised nearly 12 minutes longer than those who drank warm beverages. By cooling the body down the heart does not work as hard, the body transfers heat more efficiently and the you can do a better workout.
Severe dehydration Symptoms:
1. Extreme thirst
2. Lack of sweating
3. Little to no urination. Urine can be a dark yellow
4. Very dry mouth and mucous membranes
5. Over drinking water can be dangerous, athletes need to have drinks that provide electrolytes and sodium or risk Hyponatremia.
Hyponatremia
This is water poisoning and it can be fatal. Water poisoning is when the athlete has many of the same signs as dehydration but they have flushed all the sodium from their system. Adequate sodium balance is necessary for transmitting nerve impulses and proper muscle function, and even a slight depletion of this concentration can cause problems. Studies have shown that high intensity athletes can lose up to 2 grams of salt per liter of sweat. Replacing this during the event is critical to performance and safety.
Symptoms of Hyponatremia:
The symptoms are similar to dehydration, nausea, dizziness, cottonmouth and should be paid attention to.
Treatment of Hyponatremia:
Drink a sodium containing sports drink or eat salty foods.
Drinks besides water:
During your workouts have more than just water, have sports drinks with sodium and electrolytes. Celery based drinks and vegetable based drinks are a good source of electrolytes and sodium.
Exertional Heat Stroke:
This is the most serious of heat related illnesses. Athletes are more at risk to suffer exertional heat stroke. The difference between exertional heat stroke and regular heat stork is that athletes continue to sweat despite the core temperature.
Diagnosis or Exertional Heat Stroke:
The body core temperature is 105 F with diminished mental status such as confusion, disorientation and clumsiness. If these symptoms are ignored the athlete may collapse and enter into a coma. Should any of these signs be present cooling the patent and emergency treatment are essential.
An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure. When you work out and report to fall camp, use common sense and know how to protect yourself from dehydration and heat illnesses.

A Word About Calves

Calves are the bane of my existence. Actually, lots of women are concerned with their calves. Mine are skinny. I work them like crazy and they're still skinny. I ran track in High School AND in college. They never grew any bigger.
Whenever I try on boots, it looks like I'm trying on my mother's rain galoshes. They flop around whenever I try to walk to the mirror. Actually, I never make it to the mirror if I can look down the knee-high boots and see my ankles. The only time my calves look half-way decent is when I'm in high heels. That's not very often in my business. Can you imagine YOUR personal trainer showing up in high heels? A few years ago, there was a run (pun intended) of high-heeled sneakers, but that didn't last long. It's kind of hard to do squats in these, even with the rubber soles and lace up fronts!
Calves are actually a set of two muscle groups-the gastrocnemius and the soleus. Some experts consider them one muscle. The Gastrocnemius is in two parts, the medial head and lateral head. In normal language, it's the teardrop shaped muscle that you see when you go up on your toes and flex. The Soleus is the other muscle in the back part of the lower leg. It runs from just below the knee to the heel, and is involved in standing and walking.
One has to be careful when wearing high heels too much. They can actually be detrimental to your calves. Watch women who wear at least 3" heels every day and I can almost guarantee they'll be walking funny. Seriously! Women who always wear high heels tend to have calves that are foreshortened. They can't straighten their knees, so they look like they're treading VERY carefully no matter where they're going. They won't be able to stand up straight when standing still and actually have more trouble wearing flats. So YOU won't have this happen to you, it's important to stretch your calves at least 3 times a week.
Stand at the edge of a stair, with the balls of your feet on the stairs, heels off. Holding on to a wall or the bannister, let your heels drop as far down as they can go. Keep your knees locked. Slowly come up and repeat the action 5 or 6 times. To increase the stretch, put one whole foot on the stairs and just let the other one perform the stretch. You'll feel it more.
Here's another one that's another good stretch for wherever you are:
- Stand with your hands against the wall
- Lunge one leg back
- Bend your front leg until you feel the stretch in your calf.
Make sure you rotate your shoes. Don't wear stupidly high heels every day. Stretch your calves every now and then and keep up your walking and cardio. That will guarantee you won't have LARGE calves, either.
Unfortunately, it won't do much for skinny calves. I'm living proof. Darn it.

Things You Need To Know Before Scheduling A Chiropractic Appointment

One of the healthiest decisions that you can make is to schedule a chiropractic appointment. Since the time chiropractic was introduced, it has consistently delivered safe and effective medical interventions. More and more people each year are now turning to chiropractic as the best alternative medicine. As a result, chiropractic became the third largest medical profession in the United States and a significant medical industry for the rest of the world.
Chiropractic solely relies on the natural ability of the body to sustain self-healing. Scientifically speaking, our body is endowed with the power to re-establish homeostasis. Thus, chiropractic decided to override this wonderful mechanism of the body and try to treat it as natural as possible without the use of any medication or surgery.
If you feel any abnormality that pertains to the nervous and musculoskeletal system, then this is the best time for you to visit a chiropractic clinic. At first, you might have doubts or fears in consulting a chiropractor because of unfamiliarity, then worry no more because there are numerous research and evidenced-based studies made to prove the effectiveness and safety of chiropractic in treating many health problems.
When you decided to have a chiropractic appointment, you are in the right direction. Many things happen during an appointment with a chiropractor. Your first visit is very vital to establish baseline data. The chiropractor might conduct an interview to know the story behind your present illness. In addition to this, physical assessment, laboratory exams, and diagnostic tests will be needed. All these are necessary to establish an accurate diagnosis. The chiropractor needs to know what had triggered your health complain so that he can start from there. Furthermore, the importance of the physical assessment will reveal not just the signs and symptoms of your sickness but it will also identify the root cause. Chiropractic is a holistic approach of care. Therefore, the chiropractor needs to address the cause and not just the effect. The chiropractor will start on the area of discomfort since it will lead to the source elsewhere in the body.
When diagnosis is already been established, the chiropractor will discuss the findings to the client and will suggest different treatment programs. The chiropractor will explain the examination findings within the level of understanding of the client. This will help the client to be prepared with the possible chiropractic session. When the client agrees with the course of action, then the chiropractor will go ahead with the plan.
At your next chiropractic appointment, the chiropractor will first perform techniques that will fit your level of comfort. In most cases, spinal manipulation is done which involves forceful yet gentle maneuvers of the joints and bones. The chiropractor will move the joints and bones within a certain range of motion to restore proper alignment and re-establish its correct anatomical structure and position.
It is important that you consult a legitimate and licensed chiropractic since the procedures done by a chiropractor is complex and needs a great deal of training and skills. Schedule a chiropractic appointment today and see how a chiropractor can help you.

Why People Put Off a Hearing Test

Are you putting off having a hearing test? Is a loved one doing so? If so, it may be because of what they fear. That may be that they are losing their ability to hear. In some cases, this loss can be significant and sudden, such as when an illness causes it or when an accident occurs in which the ear canal sustains damage. There are other situations, though, where the process is much more gradual. Even in the early stages, you may believe you are having a hard time listening to others, but you may not know why. You keep putting off talking to your doctor about it.
Why Do It?
Why put off getting a hearing test? This simple procedure is nothing to fear. It often takes just a few minutes to complete. You will sit in a quiet room with headphones on and simply respond whenever you hear a sound. During the procedure, you will simply need to say which tones and volumes you can process. This allows the doctor to find out what you cannot hear. Ultimately, the goal is to determine if there is any loss.
Are you concerned with the cost? Many insurance companies and government medical packages do cover this type of testing. This is the recommended type of screening for those over the age of 65 and for those who are in elementary school, but it may be available at any time.
What If You Are Losing It?
Are you concerned with what will happen if there is some type of loss found? This is one of the biggest fears individuals have. It can be very worrisome to think that you will be unable to hear at some point. There may be ways to prevent or reduce this risk. In other cases, though, it is critical to ensure that you can take advantage of any ability to hear that you have now.
To do so, your specialist will recommend the appropriate type of hearing device for you. A device like this will work to make sounds louder and easier for you to hear. These devices are outstanding at improving your ability to do the things you love. If you have given up on soft conversations with loved ones or talking to distant relatives over the phone, it may be possible to get some of that back.
A hearing test is the first step. Many people with mild loss may not need any further treatment or care. For those that do, there are options that can help. Discuss them with your doctor at length. Find one that helps you to get back to doing the things you want to do.

Cosmetic Surgery Is Not Just For the Rich

These days, cosmetic surgery is not just for the rich and famous. In previous times, many people thought that facelifts, breast enhancements, and liposuction were only for movie stars and politicians. Today, many of your neighbors and family members have probably had a few nips and tucks performed. The reasons for a rise in plastic surgeries are varied. Procedures have become more commonplace because they're safer. Because of the media and internet access, more people are aware of what is possible. After seeing your favorite reality star morph from average to stunning because of plastic surgeries, you might consider a makeover for yourself. Surgical procedures can now be financed which makes the practice more accessible to average citizens. A variety of procedures are especially popular with the masses.
Facelifts have become extremely popular because of the aging of the population. There are different versions of this operation. The classic facelift is also called a rhytidectomy. This operation lifts the sagging jowls and lower 75% of the face to create a more youthful appearance. Other procedures may be done simultaneously or instead of the rhytidectomy depending on the sagging areas of the patient's face. For example, a neck lift tightens up the neck region; the brow lift tightens the forehead; and the blepharoplasty tightens the skin around the eyelids. Since all individuals' faces are unique, the cosmetic surgery techniques used to correct their flaws will be unique, too.
Breast enhancements are also popular. In this cosmetic surgery category, there are augmentations, reductions, and mastopexy. Augmentations are the operation used to create larger, fuller breasts. With this procedure, the surgeon will make an incision in a discreet location such as beneath the nipple, in the armpit, or under the fold of the breast. Into the incision, the doctor will slip an implant filled with either silicone or saline solution before suturing the area closed. Reductions are often paid for by medical insurance because they alleviate problems caused by oversized breasts. Mastopexy is a medical term for a breast lift. Sometimes a mastopexy is performed with an augmentation in order to create a fuller, perkier appearance.
Liposuction is another sought after technique. Because so many individuals are plagued with fatty deposits that haven't responded to dieting or exercise, they turn to lipo to sculpt away the fat. With this technique, surgeons use a cosmetic surgery tool called a cannula to suction away adipose tissue, another name for fat. This may be combined with a tummy tuck or performed on its own. Liposuction procedures are most commonly performed on bellies, hips, thighs, upper arms, male chests, and even double chins or chubby cheeks.
With the amazing results obtained through cosmetic surgery, many more individuals in all socio-economic brackets, of all ages, in every state in the nation are having nips and tucks. Because the media and internet "before and after" photos allow us to see what's possible, and financing is available, there's no reason to live life with figure and facial flaws anymore. Beauty isn't just for the rich; it's for all of us.

How to Treat Myofascial Pain

Myofascial pain, also known as MPS or CMP, is a painful syndrome characterized by chronic pain, caused primarily by pressure on specific sensitive points of the face, commonly known as trigger points. Pressure on these points causes not only facial pain, but also in apparently unrelated parts of the body. This kind of pain is known as referred pain.
As well as referred paint, pressuring a trigger point can cause oversensitivity in the pressure point, point palpitation, a very painful muscle hardening after pressuring the trigger point, weakness and limited motion range of the involved muscles. Myofascial pain can occur in different parts of a person's body and affect any muscle or group of muscles, causing a distinctive kind of pain in each. The intensity of the pain can go from slight discomfort to crippling pain, and it doesn't typically go away by itself even after applying ice, heat, cold packs or taking other similar measures.
Myofascial pain and fibromyalgia sometimes share common symptoms, like hyperirritability and pain, but they are two different conditions and, as such, are treated differently. It is possible, however, for someone to suffer from both myofascial pain and fibromyalgia at the same time. In fibromyalgia, chronic pain is constant and generalized. On the other hand, while myofascial pain affects many parts of the patient's body, it is still limited to the particular trigger points and spots where referred pain can be felt.
The exact causes of this pain are still not completely documented or understood. It is believed that poor posture, emotional disturbance, stress and back-related problems might also contribute to cause myofascial pain. According to Mayo Clinic specialists, it can also typically occur after a muscle or group of muscles has been contracted repetitively. This can be caused by repetitive motions used in specific activities, like some jobs or a hobby, or by muscle tension related directly or indirectly to a stressful situation.
Treatments
Pretty much everyone has experienced pain, but the distinctive discomfort of myofascial pain persists and/or worsens in a way no other kind of pain does. Treatment options for typically include physical therapy, trigger point injections and medication. Physical therapy involves gentle stretching and exercise, which is useful for recovering a full range of motion of the affected zones. This can cause long-term health of muscle or group of muscles suffering from pain.
Trigger Point Injections use local anesthetic, like Lidocaine. This treatment has been found effective by many patients, who have experienced longer-term relief after a few sessions.
Anti-depressants, anticonvulsants -like pregabalin, for example- and muscle relaxants such as Baclofen are listed among the various medications that are effective against myofascial pain.
Truth is, not much is known of understood about myofascial pain, so the effectiveness of each treatment will wildly vary. However, there is always hope and, as many patients have reported, real improvement is a true possibility.

Using ioniser's to gather up the dust and small particles out of the atmosphere which will prevent you from inhaling them and clogging up your airways.
So what else can we do? We can take a look at natural remedies! Where do we start? We can visit the health food shop and see what they can recommend. Perhaps there are tablets or flower remedies or oils for inhalation or embrocation. Would honey have any benefits?

The Mediterranean Secrets Of Natural Healing

Many people have recently settled back into the winter routine. Work days don't way-lay into long summer nights, kids have school, activities, play dates. And parents have long days and full schedules. Any thought of last summer's vacation pictures, have been filed away on your hard drive.
Let's play hooky for a minute, and daydream about next season's getaway. As you begin to plan for next years' getaway, why not make it a real therapeutic holiday, and explore some of the healing secrets of the Mediterranean.
For many, the Mediterranean stirs up visions of fit, bronzed bodies, svelt from a diet of olives, healthy proteins, olive oils, fish, nuts, seeds, and beans. It evokes dreams of wading in turquoise waters, bathing in hammams, and soaking in famous hot springs. Don't worry, you still have time to get into shape.
People have been seeking out the healthy lifestyles and salt water therapies of the Mediterranean for centuries. It's beauty and allure attracts 1/3 of the worlds' international tourists. There must be a reason why the region is known for health, and a staple of the Medi-diet, olives, is said to be produced by the tree of life.
I'll give you my short list here on finding your own healthy tree of life. Prepare to dream.
The Mediterranean includes eastern islands such as Cyprus, Malta in the central islands and the western islands of Ibiza and Mallorca for starters. It includes miles of coastline in both the EurAfrican and European countries. Making up an area of approximately 2.5 million square kilometers, it gives you plenty of perfect places to find balance.
THE TRADITION
Turkey, one of only seven countries worldwide that boasts vast natural thermal pools, has been made famous by health and wellness vacations, including salt water therapies (thalossotherapy). Supported by the Tourism Ministry, and 1300 natural thermal springs in Anatolia alone. Traditional spa tourism is on the rise. While you're there, stop in at the 5 star, Gloria Verde Resort for a little sea therapy.
Highly mineralized salt water thermal pools, such as those in Turkey, are said to have been soothing the Greco - Roman gods in the same way, 3000 years ago. Turks refer to the source waters of thermal pools as "llica", later to become "kapalicarsi". Meaning covered thermal pools. Emerging from this, spas, or "kaplica" became the healing place where they combined the hamman and the traditional Roman bath. Giving us the "Turkish Bath" so popular today.
To begin with your own Thalsso-therapy, or maybe delve into something a little more mystifying, there are many world class spas and resorts along the coasts of Turkey, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal. Almost every city facing the Mediterranean utlilizes salt water therapy, and thermals for health and wellness.
THALASSO - MARE (SEA -CURE)
Talasoterapia Canarias, is a 7,000 square meter Thalasso center, in the Canary Islands. One of the biggest in Europe, it offers its guests, high pressure and submarine showers, bubble or ultrasound baths, submarine jet streams, seaweed treatments, pressure therapies, respiratory therapies, thermal baths, and mud baths. Throw yourself into history, and polish a little more than your outside appearance. Relieving stress from the inside out.
Slightly inland from the coast of Spain you can soak up some vitality in the warm waters of a salt infused coastal lake, at the Archena Spa Resort, in Murcia. Archena has a wealth of mineral-rich, medicinal waters, that make Spain popular. Pamper and balance yourself in their thermal gallery, termalium area, and thermal beauty center.
Spain is also home to Europe's second largest thermal lake.
A brief list of the treatments offered in Spain provides an example of the broad scope of treatments available, and a few surprises! There are saunas, underwater massages, Heviz mud treatments, champagne baths, salmon tunics, Roman-Irish baths, henna application, balinese massages, zen gardens, patchouli oil therapies, oriental therapies, thai-chi, Hawaian therapies and crystal therapy.
The suitablilty of Spain as a destination for good living and therapeutic holidays is clear from this less than exhaustive list of the therapies practiced there. Whatever type of treatment one desires, chances are very good that you will find it in Spain. This and the centuries of experience in furthering well being and health that one finds in Spain are responsible for it and its treatment facilities being amongst the best and most popular in the world.
The literal Latin translation, Medi-Terrain, (In the middle of the earth) becomes our Mediterranean. Steeped in history, and healthy lifestyle, the Romans called it Mare Nostrum: "Our Sea"..
In touring several spas throughout the Mediterranean, I looked forward to discovering environmental purity and of course balancing leisure with work. Spain has become a place I feel at home with. A unique familiarity and a healthy lifestyle.
Spain and the famous Mediterranean coasts, with their myriad spas are also known as the European centers of health tourism.
TRADITIONAL YET DIFFERENT
In spa development we are always looking for an edge. One way of doing this is to focus on enhancing the value of water resources and the need for a sustainable and appropriate use of this resource. It also aims at promoting the development of this strategic market of traditional therapies for international tourism.
With all of this beauty and a culture steeped in age old therapies. Here in the Mediterranean life is more relaxed than most. We enjoy Spanish champagne (cava) as an appertivo, instead of just a celebrational drink. Why not, we have much to celebrate in wellness.
